My home brew club is having an "Iron Brewery" competition of 'nice' & 'nasty' ingredients for a fun competition in October. I got coffee & mushroom, so am doing a coffee stout with porcini extract. The brew is done, slightly down at OG1058, & cooling to 18°C before adding Nottingham yeast.

Picked up an old map of Belgium today from a charity shop, to spend hygge (is there a Flemish/French equivalent?) over Winter highlighting breweries for future road trips. The real pleasure of a niche neurodivergent interest, and a lot of beer books to refer to ❤️.

I came across this in the latest phase of sorting through my dad's things. It's a scene from Cornwall, 1980. I love the colours & composition, a reduced palette, painted by my dad. I miss him, there aren't many opportunities to recognise that within myself. I send this picture out to the ether.

Last call for these £100 each, ex-French Red wine barrels, 3x filled by us with beer. If no one wants them I may strip these down and make something for @wishbonetap from the wood or clean the heck out of them and start a Brett project.

Following on from the brew day, I've never known liquor run so clear. There was a lot of wheat, and a burnt ring of grist on the base after the mash and boil, despite stirring. The yeast took over a day to get really active, but it's foaming now!

Today's a surprise brew day, fitted in before we go away. It's a Lambic style with Trois Vrai yeast, to be left on apricots and raspberries in 2 secondary carboys. Carnage seems a good backing album from Nick Cave & Warren Ellis.

In a rare position of having multiple styles of homebrews available, which are a gift for a mate putting me up in London. Bière de Garde, lager, bitter, BdG mixed fermentation, kveik barleywine. The range available to make, the flexibility & the ideas on the Web are the fab reason I'm homebrewing.

It's mango season in Bradford UK. The first time I've been out to get some boxes from the vans parked up. I was going to make mango chutney, but wow, these are honey mangoes (sp?) and are just too good for that. Delicious!

Last night I finished the '5 minute job' of bottling 2 beers. The bitter is a Worthington White Shield style & finished at 5.7%. The Bière de Garde mixed-fermentation was drier than the original, as expected, but the dregs I used tasted 'flat' later, so I'm hoping that doesn't drag this brew down.

Very much a shock tonight to see I'm at least 2½ stone overweight, when I used a scale at the gym tonight (occasional visits). If I write it here, I can own this & get healthier. I kidded myself it's never been that much but yeah, that's not worked out well. Giving more homebrew away is a start 🤒🏋️❤️

I think I'm growing up, slightly. I've just bought some new-to-me plain cargo shorts to replace the ex-Swiss army shorts for this Summer's music festival. Comfort fit but not as garish. 🎶🤘🏻
