It's time to log out of bsky. I've got a novel to finish drafting & a poetry collection to piece together by 12/15. When I return, I'll search for more bookish & writerly accounts. Because dang is my feed currently too bleak to handle. (I did apply to be a poll worker for the 11/3 election.)

(I'm in Ohio, but my family is in Texas. Talarico sounds like Amy Acton (DEM gov candidate) when it comes to trans issues and rights. Y'all should have chosen Jasmine Crockett. Why are these fucking Democrats trying to appeal to the rightwing idiots? They're not going to vote for ANY Democrats.)
Talarico says he would vote in favor of a national ban for transgender surgeries for minors

Are the Republicans in Ohio smart enough to sabotage absentee voting by sending out ballot applications w/ a 2022 date? Or is Frank Larose's SoS office just incredibly inept? (I will vote early in person Oct. 6 (can also download the application from my county board of elections).)

What are we Ohioans going to do about Amy? She's so not progressive. She's pro-ICE, pro-qualified immunity for cops, anti-trans kids, pro-Issue 3, & bad at communication. I can't let Vivek win, but god do I not want to vote for her. I hate this. I'm old, tired, & just want to write poems.

Now let's try this in Muskingum (never happen. Our sheriff ... well, it will never happen).

I see that Ray Bradbury's short story, "There Will Come Soft Rains" is trending. Or was. Amazing story. Quite short (starts on Aug. 4, 2026). Quite chilling. Here, have a read (I am on a Bradbury kick, rereading): www.btboces.org/Downloads/7_...

Pretty sure George Saunders wrote a version of a character I've been working on for a decade. Serves me right for never getting around to finishing things, for not trusting my work, etc. etc., yada, blah. Going to work on her anyway even though she will never be as great as a Saunders character.

@ciararaynecloud.bsky.social I am SO sorry for the way this campaign has treated you. I am an old, cis, straight woman with several young trans friends (and others in the LGBTQ+ community), and I'm just ... running out of words. I'm a writer. Let me know if I can help beyond writing Acton's team.

I just wrote to Amy Acton's campaign about their stance on the trans community in OH. I feel a little bit sick. I'm so tired of writing reps, senators, candidates, etc. Instead, I want to write poems and novels and read books. I hate that I have to vote for her. thebuckeyeflame.com/2026/07/31/a...
Amy Acton’s campaign staff met with Ohio LGBTQ+ leaders. The meeting did not go well.
Acton didn’t attend. Leaders were barred from entry. Others were kicked out.

I just watched an interview w/ one of David Brouillette's ex-wives. Brave woman says she absolutely believes he murdered Joan Sebastian Guerrero, that who he is is pure violence. I watched this as our county is under a severe tornado warning. I'm going to bed now, yes, in the middle of the day.

I don't have the heart, energy, strength, stomach to watch Tr*mp's speech. Bless those of you who are managing it, especially if you do so without puking.

The thing is, my honeys, even if ICE had found their actual target instead of yet another innocent man, being undocumented is *not* a capital crime.

BREAKING: the clock struck midnight and our bipartisan housing bill is now law.

Trump refused to sign it, but he couldn't stop it.

This law is GROUNDBREAKING.

It will build more housing, bring down costs, and for the first time, stop private equity from buying up homes.

Happy Friday, and Jonathan Ross is still a murderer, Donald Trump is still a rapist, and everything Trump touches dies is still the rule.

It's almost like he's happy those babies died and believes they deserved it. This man makes me sick. I have to go write a bad poem now.
NYT: Can you now say whether you will hold anyone in your administration accountable for the strike on a school that killed more than 100 children?

TRUMP: No. It's such a strange question to be asked. It's a long time ago. Mistakes are made. I would ask Pete Hegseth that question.

I question whether I'm a good person when I see certain names trending and ask, hopefully (aloud in my empty but for me house), "Did he/she die?"
In my universe, it seems only the good die, young or old.

In the 2006 film *Sweet Land*, a socialist tries to talk to Minnesota farmers witnessing the auction of a friend's farm after the bank foreclosed about the evils of capitalism. As the local law manhandles him away, he says, "Gentlemen, this is how it starts. The law and the money together." Yep.

I only spent $35 at the grocery store the other day, but that I was able to carry all of my items into the house with one hand tells you I didn't get very much. But we love inflation. Right? Keeps us lean.

I came here to share something personal then read about how men are feeling persecuted because of Emily Wilson's take on The Odyssey, and now I have to go spend money I can't afford to spend on her translation. (I don't remember what I was going to share now.)

My father has been gone 27 years today. I miss him deeply, especially since the recent death of my nephew's beautiful 14-year-old girl (4/27). I don't know what happens after we die, but if she had known him in life, she would have treated him with spicy adoration the way my daughter did.
