I also find the boiling-with-sugar step takes about 3 times as long as this says, but that might be due differences in definition of "simmer".

They're taking the bridge apart now!
Hard to see what's going on, but from further up it looked like the new bridge is part way across the river. Maybe they've joined them together to pull the new one into place?

The bridge is still there!
Diggers have moved though. The one on this side of the river is still in the compound, & its place by the bridge has been taken by some kind of big green lifting machine.
Can't really see much of what's going on, tbh. A portacabin's arrived too.

Diggers have moved though. The one on this side of the river is still in the compound, & its place by the bridge has been taken by some kind of big green lifting machine.

First I thought they'd just added stuff to the scaffolding & had a delivery of stones, but then I realised they've dug away the end bit of the road, so the bridge is no longer joined on.

Decided I'd like to know more about this bridge replacement so I tootled down there after work today.
Looks like so far they've got machines into position on both sides, & put all the road signs up.

I expect the new bridge will be a welcome change for people who live down that road, though the loss of the wobbly bridge makes me feel a little sad.
Incidentally, this road is also the only place I've ever seen this road sign outside of a Highway Code book.

Today I drove a few miles down the road to say goodbye to the wobbly bridge.
After many years of service, this bailey bridge is closed from tomorrow & being replaced with a steel truss bridge able to support larger vehicles than the current 3 ton limit.

I think I've used up several days worth of resistance to l temptation when not replying to this FB post to ask how they're planning to keep their trains on the tracks when mounted vertically.

This one should say "USATC S160" not "USA S160".
& yes. The US Army Transport Corps designed steam locos.

Sharing here because this was a magical moment just earlier. Had to abort my mission to shut the chickens up when I spotted this youngster taking a look at the big wide world beyond the nest.
