Trump & his Project 2025 crew are the wrong people at the wrong historical moment -- they're handing US science leadership over to China www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Self-regulating capitalism & trickle-down economics are huge fantasies that hold sway over US politics. What's so frustrating about these ideas is that anyone with access to daily news can see that they're fictions, not based in reality. A deep dive into history isn't necessary to grasp the reality

It's difficult to pick apart fears about AI & data centers that are intrinsic to the technologies vs. those that are connected to the fact that giant, fateful decisions about these things are being made by a small handful of insular brain-cooked oligarch narcissists.

The “tax the rich and they’ll all leave” crowd might want to take a seat. Tax the rich opponents keep that narrative going even though data shows it’s false.

NY raised taxes on the wealthy in 2021. We were told the millionaires would flee.

At this point everyone knows crypto is a scam. Nobody in crypto is innocent. All players in crypto are looking to scam someone else.

If you're in crypto and you get wallet drained or rug-pulled, you had it coming. Seriously.

I don't think it's "blasphemous" to observe that 9/11 worked. If the goal was to bring out inherent contradictions & fault lines in US democracy, hastening internal division & long-term political gridlock...Check. To make us squander resources & reputation in endless wars...Check. And so much more

The shock jock mode of politics has not only become the dominant form within the GOP, it's also one of the most reliable ladders of success available to the conspicuously untalented. A moron's grift so widespread it has swallowed American political discourse whole.

Leftist YIMBYs want to tear up zoning, environmental & preservation regulations & leave urban planning to the discretion of developers & the magic of the free market. They are drinking some crazy kool-ade if they believe this will solve homelessness. I get the sense that they're mostly into this...

Why are there always enough Democratic traitors voting with Republicans to pass legislation that is widely unpopular among Democratic voters...but the Republicans always vote together as a unified bloc?

It's impossible to understate the evil of Netanyahu & the genocidal Israeli government. And let's not forget that 80% of Israeli citizens support the genocide. If USA ever comes to stand for global justice & the rule of law, our alliance with Israel must end.

Returning to this post from last spring, and it feels more obvious than ever.

Just a series of 30-second ads of rapid-fire headlines about scandals in one Cabinet department with the tag line at the end:

Had Enough? Vote Democratic
In the 1946 midterm elections, the GOP used public anger over meat shortages to win back both houses of Congress for the first time in over a decade.

Their message for those midterms was a simple one that Democrats should borrow: “Had enough?”
Ground beef hit a record $5.80 per pound in April, up nearly 50% from five years ago. And the USDA says prices will keep climbing throughout 2025.

Not great

I think the general consensus of people around the world is that Americans can get fooled by a con man once, but to return him to power a 2nd time after having seen his corruption, incompetence, ignorance, & buffoonery, the problem isn’t just Trump it’s the American people.

One of the most annoying Bluesky leftist tropes is "prolonged national strike" in USA. Reality: class solidarity is non-existent (skip work, your job is up for grabs), only 10% unionized, 2 wks sick leave & 1 wk vacation (if lucky), landlords evict for missing 1 rent payment, no med care w/o a job.

Every subsequent U.S. president who tries to do a modicum of good via foreign policy or trade is going to be sitting across from someone thinking yeah sure, okay, but what about the next guy.

Absent political reforms, tribunals and truth and reconciliation, that credibility is gone forever.
