you cannot reform a system where there is no consequence for murdering an infant because his parents *MIGHT HAVE* stolen a pack of diapers.

Abolishing ICE and DHS is only 1 part of what needs to happen.
JUST IN: The police shooting that killed 1-year-old Kohen Wiley as he sat in his mother’s lap in a Walmart parking lot in Senatobia, Miss., in June “was justified,” Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s office said on Monday.

Her office will not charge the white officer who shot the child.

The buy in is so damn real. A *repeated* convo w/a family member: some weird-seeming people showed up when she had an infant and a toddler home by herself and wouldn't leave her driveway, so she called the cops. "Who else could I call??"

She snuck to the neighbors long before the cops showed up
The police state exists to suppress the Black population to keep us from uprising by cop violence & the system of mass incarceration, descended from structures slaveholders used to suppress revolt & escape among the enslaved, & it radiates to ensnare the rest, & white folks buy into it culturally.
The police do not exist to stop crime. The United States is a police state. And we are a police state because the white majority chose to be, because men with guns made us feel safer until we realized the enemy wasn't the "other," it was ourselves.

like, i cannot emphasize enough that this is an idiotic worldview. the product of a brain that cannot grasp complexity lodged in a person whose self-worth rests on a fantasy of inherent superiority

"I meet with the consipiracy loons actively pushing things that will kill a whole lot of people because I agree with them about a lot" is a weird message for a "leftist" to push out
There is pervasive corruption across our healthcare and agricultural systems that defy party lines.

I meet with MAHA activists because a lot of their concerns are bipartisan issues that major corporations paint as partisan.

The fight isn't left and right, it's top and bottom.

what's the Grok prompt that creates this motherfucker?

"grok, show me a precog but it's a skeletal dude who is a nazi and running with the brownshirt theme. Give him a tie, though. make his head shiny like he just came out of a pool that RFK Jr would swim in"
Miller: "It's not a coincidence that when you look at these violent Antifa demonstrations not one of the people that is demonstrating looks like a normal person. Not one looks normal. They're all deformed in some way in their appearance, in their dress, in their mannerism." #cdnpoli

There's no use in even trying to use the system to fight the assholes who ARE the system to get anything close to real accountability. And perpetuating the system just perpetuates the system...and, I gotta say, I'm pretty sure the system fuckin' sucks.
We are still actively dealing with creatures from the Nixon and Reagan administrations.

We have Brooks Brothers Riot organizers sitting on the Supreme Court.

It's the same people. It's BEEN the same people. The system is incapable of dealing with these evil men who are products of the system.

notably, this will not bankrupt this asshole like it would most of us.

Hell, he didn't even get fired!
Mitch McConnell has released a photo and the first statement on his condition:

"I was briefly unconscious and was taken to the hospital. While receiving excellent care over the past several weeks, I’ve also had to deal with a mild case of pneumonia."

I'm far past feeling the need to defend people who celebrate the deaths of ghouls. We live under overt fascism. The regime hunts people in the streets. We are talking about political actors so foul that no moral reconciliation is possible. They can only be defeated. Mourning them is a betrayal.

there just is no scenario where shooting this dog IN AN APARTMENT COMPLEX made any fucking sense outside of every cop being a huge piece of shit who enjoys doing things like shooting a dog in an apartment complex
LAPD killed a woman’s dog on Friday. The officers showed up 20 deep w/ a helicopter over a noise complaint. LAPD claims the dog “charged” at them. The labradoodle was wearing a Knick’s jersey, too.

The video is distressing. I’ll link it in the thread.

Deep down every parent who wants to use torture to change their kids knows that there's a huge, wonderful queer community that's going to love and welcome their kids, and that they will flourish despite their parents best efforts to destroy them, and it's our job to make sure the kids know that too.

This shit happens to @reichlinmelnick.bsky.social and @chrisgeidner.bsky.social regularly too and I cannot overstate how bad it is for all of us when we lose the good, correct reporting on legal shit we don’t understand
I have experienced similar pile-ons when my summary of a court's holding was mistaken for my personal view on the matter.

This insistence on stripping a post of context then imputing bad faith is making BlueSky unusable for legal reporting. Today's incident shows that the problem is getting worse.

I hate political ad season, but this is pretty damn good
We don’t need talkers right now. We need fighters.

And no matter how many times they knock me down, I’ll get back up and fight with you. Every. Single. Time.

you should not share a post that's a screenshot without a link to a news item. you should not share a post that's a video or picture without some kind of sourcing. we're in a new bad era and these are now basic practices.

... also photogs and journos gotta eat so share their work.

I’m broke and thus don’t have this book (and I realize this does not generally stop me from having books) but I requested it at my library! Which everyone should do for every book they want to read!
Someone just tagged this post from November 2024. Maybe I should do a signed paperback giveaway? I'll pick one at 5 pm CST tomorrow at random from the likes. You don't even have to follow or repost ... but it would be nice if you did!

To this point: All of my news reporting, any big features work, etc, is free. I think it’s important that my work is accessible to people, regardless of whether they can pay. 💖
I'm broke as fuck, but if you can swing a paid sub, I'd appreciate it because just the free stuff is some of the best reporting I've found on what's actually going on in law world...which, no matter where you are on the "gov't should exist at all" spectrum, is really really good info to have
Seriously, subscribe to Law Dork. I can't do everything the big publications can do, but at least I'll never do this.

(And, this weekend, you can get a paid subscription for 15% off for a year: $51 for the year or $5.10 a month!) www.lawdork.com/blackfriday

It’s long past time for that asshole @kaine.senate.gov to go. He and @markwarner.bsky.social have been disappointing me for longer than I can remember.
If I lived in Virginia, the second that Spanberger is sworn in as governor, I'd be demanding @kaine.senate.gov's resignation so she could replace him with someone who's actually aware of what is going on.
