After her denied appeal, Wood went to Cornell’s Human Affairs Program, where Farley, Susan Meyer, and Karen Sauvigné helped her find feminist lawyers to continue fighting the denial. The women began organizing around her experience, but Wood’s case still failed.

In 1975, Cornell employee Carmita Wood resigned after persistent unwanted sexual advances from a professor. When she applied for unemployment benefits, her claim was denied on the grounds that she had left for “personal non-compelling reasons.” She appealed and was denied.

I’ll also add that most of the heat should be directed at USA Today, but the journalists who participated in this breach of ethics also made a choice.

Organizations are made up of people. We can’t absolve the people who do harm on the behalf of an organization.

As an expert on sexual violence, I have to add that these ethical violations are a nightmare for interviews on sensitive subjects.

I would never recommend ANY survivor goes public with their story at an outlet that would do this to them.

This is what they've done.
It was a rare federal dataset that captured human emotions. Consumers could have their complaints about American businesses published for all to see.
