An unusual construction of a Penrose triangle (impossible tribar) featuring a parody of the toolbar.

The toolbar is standard in most graphics editors, but Square Sketch replaces it with gestures and modifier keys.

I've returned from a short off-grid break with tons of new ideas for Jinks, games, apps. 😎

It's amazing what can be achieved away from the computer, and doubly so whilst working on your own projects every day…instead of someone else's. Full time indie power! #indiedev

Here’s a new, super-interactive essay I wrote about making interactions really great for repeated use, motor memory, and so on.

I just… love this kind of stuff? I don’t know. My hope is that you’ll fall in love with this, too.

*a big screen very, very recommended*

Around 1976, eight years before MacPaint, there was a drawing program called BitRect at Xerox PARC as part of Smalltalk. It featured one of the first toolbars, now standard in graphics editors. That was 50 years ago.

Square Sketch v2.1.0 has been released with the option to invert the delete tool. Among other things, this can be used to add arrowheads.

MacPaint from 1984 runs in the browser: infinitemac.org

Trying it out is even more fun if you've watched an interview with the developers like this one: youtu.be/-syl7m_i-80

I'm researching this to write about modal and modeless user interfaces.

It’s wonderful to see! I’ve been wondering for a long time when a MacPaint version for modern macOS would be available.
Random screen recording using latest build of MacPaint. One thing I added to the lasso tool was ⌘-click which basically acts as a magic wand tool and does a kind of flood fill selection where you clicked. Felt like a natural extension of the lasso tool.
