Many of the most annoying takes in the world would go away if people could accept that:

innumeracy is my least favorite flavor of anti-intellectualism and I am very cranky about the false choice we're presented. Do you want to learn math or read books? I'm sorry but you're going to have to do both
i'm gonna say one more thing about this. one other aspect of this particular knot of anti-intellectualism is innumeracy. if I told you flooding was a problem in some neighborhood and we needed to figure out how to redistribute water, you probably wouldn't say "oh you mean like a cup?!"

haven't updated this in a while but the latest is they changed my parents' marital status from "divorced" which i put on the form to "married" (for my dead father) and "widowed" (for my mother) because i guess it didn't occur to them that people can actually divorce before one of them dies
Today's news:
"Hey so for that visit I don't have a visa because I was 11 yo and didn't have a passport. What information should I put into the form?"

hey is it good that the software they're making me use for immigration application has two separate typos and one sentence, and doesn’t have the concept of non-requires fields (so i have to fill out end date for my current job)

In my company, I am the person accountable for the correctness of docs to customers, i'm reaching the point where im about to ban engineers from writing docs. It's always subtly wrong (and ofc terriblly AI written) so i spend more time editing and verifying than i would have spent on writing it

People who aren’t using AI to code at this point are delusional or lying, trying to ride a horse down the highway and backing up the traffic instead of asking “what can we do to make cars safer and electric.” They have no ethical high ground

I don’t like bringing the personal into the posting but if you feel comfortable publicly commenting (nicely, no fed posting) on the “let’s make employers pay 100K for H1-B visas” rule proposed by DHS, I’d appreciate it. My significant other would be effected by this and I love her very much

New from this guy: you are a product expert in an analytics company and you say that you were teaching data analytics at graduate level, but nowhere on your resume you talk about your experience with analytics
I think "your contract-signing witness printed their name under 'witness (print name)' but we needed then to sign it" might be the point at which i give up on immigration entirely. I simply cannot live like this for the rest of my life.

visa is an entry document, not an immigration status document. You can be in the country entirely legally, **as determined by USCIS**, and have an expired visa - which is in fact the case overwhelming majority of people in employment-based status (either H1 or EB). What even is this policy.
