Rick Beato fired the first salvo of making the term "yacht rock" into ragebait for aging boomers, but if we simply must turn every little goddamn thing into grist for the culture-war mill, I could not be more delighted if "Steely Dan isn't yacht rock" becomes an explicitly right-coded belief

If there are social historians in the future they are going to wonder at the bizarre mentality of us deciding that the best way to handle ground transportation is for everyone to drive their own car.

philosophical & environmental criticisms of AI aside, I despise the ubiquitous summaries which all read like something a lazy student who didn't do the work but wants to sound smart would turn in- too many words, fancy ones that are out of place, basic errors of fact

hate, hate, hate, hate

Before / After Rue Boussingault in the 13th arrondissement of Paris. What a difference a few years make. The first photo is a 2022 / 2024 comparison (just a few weeks after the planting of the trees), the second photo is a 2022 / 2026 comparison.

This kind of “here’s what I do with AI” articles are always “I’ve never liked thinking, and with AI, I can finally stop.”

The man that hath no music in himself,
Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds,
Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils;
The motions of his spirit are dull as night,
And his affections dark as Erebus
Let no such man be trusted. Mark the music.

We need a range of solutions to address car dependency and create safer streets. It's a toolkit that involves: Redesigning roads to slow speeds and impose consequences for dangerous driving, improved infrastructure, expanded public transit, better driver education, and enforcement.

On Monday — 553 days into his second term — Trump again blamed Biden for high prices, despite repeatedly promising to lower prices on Day One.

I dug into the archives to see how Trump's rhetoric compared with federal economic data in a new supercut for @ms.now.

Every day this guy does something like this and every day the same people who dress him up as a terrifying commie destroyer of civilization do a dozen things to sabotage the public good, to murder and destroy and hate and kill, and I can't anymore handle those who won't see the clear difference.
This summer, we kept the lights on all night, every night, at five soccer fields across New York City.

This was the scene at Calvert Vaux Park in Gravesend, Brooklyn Tuesday night.

There are zero "anti-car activists" (the term being thrown around today) who believe that vital services such as emergency response and sanitation shouldn't be done with vehicles. The issue is personal automobile ownership and the over-deployment of cars at the expense of nearly everything else.
You do realize this level of accessibility still isn’t enough for people with specific needs? Do you want to go scold an EMT next for driving a gas guzzler when they should be dragging their gurneys on the subway?
