So much to love from this celebration of my favorite medium. An embarrassment of riches, and win or lose, these shows offered so much joy and contemplation. Also worth noting, my favorite streamer (Apple TV) getting so much overlooked recognition. #WidowsBay

Apple TV won big with horror-comedy ‘Widow’s Bay,’ while ‘The Pitt’ continued its drama dominance for HBO Max. Last night, Hollywood celebrated the best that television has to offer with the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards. Three-time winner Mariska Hargitay hosted Hollywood’s big night, where Apple TV walked away as the big winner thanks to a historic night for the horror-comedy “Widow’s Bay .” HBO Max also continued to show up with a strong performance, as medical-drama “The Pitt ” was another of the night’s big winners. Finished #Settling out of New Zealand (narrated by Rainn Wilson!?!)…kind of a fun, crazy rom-com with a unique premise. Short, sweet and a little saccharine, but worth a watch…

I have often commented that #Silo can be maddeningly slow at times, but oh boy when things get going, this show just sings (maybe because of the contrast?). The last few episodes of season 3 have just been spectacular, elevating this show into sci-fi greatness. Also a bonus, final season preview!

I’m sure I’ll be in the minority here, but I wasn’t a big fan of #Furious on #Hulu. I acknowledge the great performances, but the story was just too dark and disturbing for me to enjoy. I stayed with it just out of curiosity, but ultimately this just wasn’t for me.

Working my way through #Spider-Noir (which is corny (on purpose?) and kind of mediocre despite the retro-cool aspect). But holy crap has #Amazon #Prime gone nuts with the commercials, like so bad it makes me want to stop watching altogether (and yes I know they offer ad-free). Absolutely ridiculous.

#Adults s2 is back on #FX & stronger than ever. There’s some real lightning-in-a-bottle magic here. The cast is so well defined, the writing is amazing, but the chemistry and chaos adds up to more than its parts. In a world that leans towards uncomfortable comedy, this is just lol funny, a rare gem.

Although it’s puzzling that the BBC decided to split season 2 into two chunks, I will take it however I can get it. The first 3 episodes were excellent, as-expected, and the last half drops on Sep 10 so a short wait. BritBox gets it in Oct and I’m assuming they will drop all 6 (Unless premier-only?)

Been working my way through #PerdiendoElJuicio, which was sold to me as a Spanish version of Attorney Woo (which I loved). I don’t think this is as endearing, but it has grown on me. I recommend subtitles rather than dub for English (of course) and it does have its charms.

Any Star Trek #StrangeNewWorlds fans out there? I really enjoyed the weekly rhythm of the first couple seasons, 3 was disappointing and now 4 just seems…unnecessarily weird? I feel like each week they are swinging for the fences and they should just be trying to get on base. I’ll still watching but…

Cannot wait for #Ludwig, Mitchell is a treasure. #Possession I was a little cold on, points for being different but I just wanted it done by the end.

The #Lucky finale on Apple dropped tonight. I honestly wasn’t sold on this show after the pilot, but it grew on me. Helped immensely by Taylor-Joy and Olyphant along with a smart script, the show delivers a tight, action-packed series with an amazing supporting cast. Another strong Apple entry.

Finally finished #TheHawk on Netflix and it was…a show I watched. Not as funny as Happy Gilmore, not as grounded as Stick. I feel like they needed to lean one way or the other and instead chose to split the middle, pleasing neither. I didn’t hate it, but seems like a lot of lost potential & talent.

With the recent demise of the TV Time show tracking app, I’ve been trying to find a worthy replacement. I tried IMDB for a bit but it lacked the ability to import my old data and a decent “watch next” summary page. So I’ve settled on Hobi Time which ticks those boxes (IOS/AND). Thoughts? hobiapp.com

Here is something I rarely do, re-watch an entire series (esp this soon after the first watch). I was extolling the virtues of this amazing show to some visiting relatives, and subsequently ended up watching the entire season, again. Loved it just as much and picked up on so many small things.

#RideOrDie on Prime recently dropped and it’s a fun, buddy-assassin? romp fit for summer. Most of the charm comes from the pairing of Spencer and Waddingham, the story felt a bit long at times but the show has lots of momentum and exotic locales. Solid summer filler.

While I am a big fan of “Cozy Mysteries”, #HairdresserMysteries on #BBCOne and #BritBox fails to connect (but maybe decent background filler?). Even the delightful Sally Phillips cannot lift this above average, but if you love this type of show (or Sally), it’s an easy watch. #CozyMysteries

Another unexpectedly great series has been #AWomanOfSubstance on Channel 4 (or #BritBox in US). Perhaps not quite as endearing as The Other Bennet Sister, but overall, an excellent show I’m looking forward to seeing more of. I guess this is turning into the summer of Period Pieces for me.

Holy crap this show is funny #AnnDroid I’ve only watched the first couple episodes, but Diane Morgan and Sue Johnston are comedy gold together. Genuinely funny comedy with heartwarming undertones. If you have access to #BBCOne don’t sleep on this one. Highly Recommended. #SueSueSue

I watch a lot of television and will try anything, most ends up being mediocre. But to quote this show #TwoYearsLater, “Some of life’s greatest joys come from the unexpected”. I knew nothing about this show & was floored. It follows a post-pandemic romance with all its complexity, simply fantastic.

#MaximumPleasureGuaranteed wrapped up tonight and I know a lot of people LOVED this show but I wasn’t quite as enamored. The casting was fantastic (esp Maslany) and the story (intentionally) crazy, but it just never struck me as “great”, but definitely good and worth watching. #AppleTV

#StarCity on #AppleTV (parallel spin-off to #ForAllMankind) has concluded its first season with mixed results. There were moments of greatness, but often were offset with long periods of drab, plodding story. I want to see more and have them lean into the big-swings that characterize this franchise.
