This. It played out in a similar but opposite way in the 20th century. Lots of Americans wanted fascism in the 1930s, we just held them off them. Now Europe has many who want fascism but have more robust protections than we have, so have been able to hold them off.
Actually, Americans are just like you. ~20-30% of them genuinely support fascism, as in ~every 🇪🇺 country. You are just more fortunate to have political institutions & a multiparty system that prevent that 20-30% from fully capturing the center-right party, becoming 51%, & controlling the government.
