Today about 100 people took part in a mass trespass in the Prime Minister’s constituency.

There’s a right to roam over just 1% of Makerfield, & today the landowner proved our point for us: putting up fencing & calling the police.

BBC News: Mass trespass staged in PM Andy Burnham's constituency

"They walked on to the Winstanley Hall estate in Wigan as part of their calls for a change in the law to bring in a Scottish-style right of responsible access to land and water that is privately owned."

Your regular reminder: If the Russians stop fighting, the war ends. If the Ukrainians stop fighting, their land will be occupied, their leaders will be killed, their history and language will be erased, their children will be kidnapped to serve Russia.

Deep-seated contradiction always at the heart of criminal justice policy:

- We have good evidence of what works for rehabilitation & that's what reduces reoffending & increases public safety.

- But the public want offenders punished & believe harsh punishment deters. Regardless of the evidence.
New Scandinavian wings at Wandsworth and Pentonville jails have seen a 45% fall in assaults, 57% drop in self harm and halving of staff absence rates - fascinating results from trial into a more rehabilitative approach to prisons observer.co.uk/news/nationa...

does make you love parliamentary democracy a bit. if you wanna be PM you really have to be ok with standing in the middle of a room and being bullied by 650 people. that's intense!

Quietly, calmly and forensically, BBC just dismantled the Trump communications shitshow on Iran.

No hyperbole, just laying out an unprecedented military, diplomatic and reputational shambles.

Worth a watch.

Letter from Trump to the Norwegian PM says since he didn’t get the Nobel Peace Prize he’s decided he wants Greenland.

Even for Donald Trump, this is astonishing behaviour.

“Considering your country decided not to give me the Nobel Prize… I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of peace”.

Putin's little tool Farage is all over our TV screens, so I think this deserves revisiting.

Farage squirms as Rep. Jamie Raskin obliterates the "Putin-loving, free speech imposter, Trump sycophant".

Please share. The news media seem all too keen to forget about Farage's service to Russia.

I understand the pressures on the BBC, but Radio 4's coverage of the Minneapolis shooting is an example of "bad balance".

It's all "the Trump regime says she was a terrorist, but Democrats say it was murder".

The BBC has the footage. It doesn't have to treat truth and falsehood as equally valid.

It’s amazing how often people who profess to care about “British values” will actually support the values of a foreign autocracy, if they think they’ll be making the rules.
The UAE where hugging in public can get you arrested, where human rights barely exist, where foreign workers are routinely abused, where critics of the regime routinely disappear, where an Indian nanny was shot by firing squad in March & where marital rape is not a criminal offence but being gay is.

Several media skews & biases here, some conscious, some unconscious.

Even liberal outlets treat these fragments as maybe reflecting public opinion, because they are a vocal noisy niche within the majority group

Media won't do that if 25/50k people protest trans issues, or Gaza, or trade union
I don’t want to be too shrill about this but I think the BBC, ITV and Sky have disgraced themselves in their coverage of the anti-refugee protests. A massive failure of judgement. But now we know the next time a progressive protest “isn’t news” that it’s nothing to do with numbers
