The controversy around Anna Biller’s The Face of Horror got me thinking about our curious habit of calling anything theatrical, beautiful or emotionally sincere “camp”.

It is indeed.

So is Tokaido Yotsuya Kaidan, which @superamanda.bsky.social & I watched on the Criterion Channel the other night. The story is the basis for her friend Anna Biller’s new film The Face of Horror.

6. THE FACE OF HORROR: Same could be said for Anna Biller. Endlessly wowed by her style and was SO pumped to finally get the chance to chat with her about it.

@patrickzircher.bsky.social I just wrote this about you on Facebook. Guy I’m replying to had commented on Tim Conrad’s “Worms of the Earth” completion (which I was disappointed by in 1976, as it wasn’t Barry, but like a lot now).

In KEEP WATCHING THE SKIES, the late Bill Warren argued that #SteveMcQueen is NOT playing a teenager in #TheBlob, but a “cool” older guy who’s hung around for years as King of the Drag Strip & town Lothario, not unlike McConaughey in DAZED AND CONFUSED.

What’s his story or novella in which the protagonist takes photos using an antique process? If I’m remembering correctly, it’s not SF or fantasy.

Plot of #ItTheTerrorFromBeyondSpace seems inspired by two 1939 stories by A. E. Van Vogt, later incorporated into his 1950 novel Voyage of the Space Beagle. Van Vogt lived to sue #Alien & got $50,000 settlement.

I’ve never seen it, but in 1964, Ferrer repeated the role of Cyrano, w. Jean-Pierre Cassel as D’Artagnan. It does not have a great reputation, despite being the last theatrical film directed by Abel Gance. Sylva Koscina & Daliah Lavi are the heroines.
