Nearly fifty and still get anxiety the day before a new class starts, mostly over getting the day wrong! Anyway, hoping a new term at art school is going to get me out of this rut I fell into over summer!

The ozone layer continues to heal 🌍
The WMO Ozone & UV Bulletin released on #OzoneDay shows that the Antarctic ozone hole in 2025 was one of the smallest in decades. However, measurements also show a significant increase in days with high UV exposure.

Researching microplastics for an art project because I know how to have fun apparently! Anyway, does anyone in the Edinburgh area have any of those letter beads used to make friendship bracelets they wanna offload per chance? I'm trying to use secondhand for this project of mass production!

Councils using Wildflowers instead of standard practice would save money by using no pesticides and reduced man hours by no repeated mowing . Everyone will get the benefit of interest, beauty, colour and pollinators. Why aren’t they saving us money and helping biodiversity?

We’re looking for artworks in any medium that respond to the wind turbine jacket foundations in the Port of Leith. We are looking for paintings, drawings, writing, sculpture, textiles, audio-visual work, whatever you like! You don’t have to consider yourself an artist to participate. We’d love to hear your thoughts about the towers – will you feel sad when they go? Maybe you can’t wait for them to be gone? You can write to us, send audio recordings, drawings, anything. Let us know how you would like to be credited, or if you would like to remain anonymous! We are also working towards a physical exhibition of this collection. We hope this exhibition will happen in January 2027 – just in time to say goodbye before the jackets move on to their final location. Submit your thoughts or artworks using this form. Yesterday went to Dovecot to see the Costume Couture: 60 years of Cosprop exhibit which was exquisite but also popped up to the balcony to view the Elizabeth Blackadder and the angy orange cat at the bottom is sending me! Also this is a tapestry and not a painting! Gobsmackingly gorgeous!
A handwoven tapestry that depicts three curious cats in an interior full of leafy potted plants. The cats are two calicos and a black cats amongst and assortment of orchids and green leafed potted house plants. Text of the description for the previous slide. Elizabeth Blackadder and Dovecot Studios Cats at Play. 1995. Tapestry, handwoven, wool, cotton, and linen. 205cm by 205cm, private collection. Cats at play combines two subjects that Blackadder was well-known for: botanicals and cats. The tapestry depicts three curious cats in an interior full of leafy potted plants. The large tapestry emphasises the painterly marks and characteristics of her watercolour paintings. With an overallpalette of greens, Blackadder postioned the cats and flowers to provide pops of deep colour to break up the subtle shades. Purple orchid stems, bursts of pinks and petals, and calico cats demonstrate her innate understanding of colour and compositions, while the subject matter holds a charm that many found so endearing in Blackadder's work.

it's two things, to me:

1) trans rights matter because trans people matter and deserve rights, not just because failing to stand for trans rights is a bellwether for inauthentic progressivism more broadly

2) if you can't be trusted on trans rights you can't be trusted on anything

So, you know how I have a billion unfinished projects? Well, I did a spreadsheet analysis and my downfall was in 2023 where I also happened to buy two guitars and some Spanish and Italian dictionaries! Apparently, I had a plan. 🤷‍♀️ Anyway, I have finished some of those projects, so nature is healing.

Took a walk along the Waters of Leith to Stockbridge. Mushroom season is here.

Edinburgh with autumnal vibes is my favourite Edinburgh. I love this little turreted house on Miller Row which I always pass on my walk from the gallery to Stockbridge. Also, not sure how people are supposed to get on this swing without going for a swim first!

Recently read Perfection by Vincenzo Latrinico translated by Sophie Hughes described as 'a sociological novel about the emptiness of contemporary existence, beautifully written, brilliantly scathing' and is a really great critique of on vs offline existence.

your brain processes sound and sight at different speeds. it resyncs them before handing it to the thinking bit.

The "Horizon of Simultaneity" is when you're far enough from something that the diff in the speed light/sound naturally syncs the processing, reducing cognitive load.
