He has a reputation at the vet for being ‘uncooperative’. He came back with an amber coloured bandaged before, we’re now at red alert ‼️ He’s so big, he sleeps in a dog bed! Anyway, I love my bad tempered rescue baby! ❤️ Maybe one day I’ll write about the summer my cat’s tail fell off!

Dear Edinburgh folk, Onion Press is looking for submissions for a community art project about the yellow towers we're all obsessed about!

Submissions Yellow Towers is now taking responses from the community to showcase on this website. We’re looking for artworks in any medium that respond to the wind turbine jacket foundations in the Port of Leith. We are looking for paintings, drawings, writing, sculpture, textiles, audio-visual work, whatever you like! You don’t have to consider yourself an artist to participate. We’d love to hear your thoughts about the towers – will you feel sad when they go? Maybe you can’t wait for them to be gone? You can write to us, send audio recordings, drawings, anything. Let us know how you would like to be credited, or if you would like to remain anonymous! We are also working towards a physical exhibition of this collection. We hope this exhibition will happen in January 2027 – just in time to say goodbye before the jackets move on to their final location. Submit your thoughts or artworks using this form. Yesterday went to Dovecot to see the Costume Couture: 60 years of Cosprop exhibit which was exquisite but also popped up to the balcony to view the Elizabeth Blackadder and the angy orange cat at the bottom is sending me! Also this is a tapestry and not a painting! Gobsmackingly gorgeous!
A handwoven tapestry that depicts three curious cats in an interior full of leafy potted plants. The cats are two calicos and a black cats amongst and assortment of orchids and green leafed potted house plants. Text of the description for the previous slide. Elizabeth Blackadder and Dovecot Studios Cats at Play. 1995. Tapestry, handwoven, wool, cotton, and linen. 205cm by 205cm, private collection. Cats at play combines two subjects that Blackadder was well-known for: botanicals and cats. The tapestry depicts three curious cats in an interior full of leafy potted plants. The large tapestry emphasises the painterly marks and characteristics of her watercolour paintings. With an overallpalette of greens, Blackadder postioned the cats and flowers to provide pops of deep colour to break up the subtle shades. Purple orchid stems, bursts of pinks and petals, and calico cats demonstrate her innate understanding of colour and compositions, while the subject matter holds a charm that many found so endearing in Blackadder's work.

Researching microplastics for an art project because I know how to have fun apparently! Anyway, does anyone in the Edinburgh area have any of those letter beads used to make friendship bracelets they wanna offload per chance? I'm trying to use secondhand for this project of mass production!

Recently read Perfection by Vincenzo Latrinico translated by Sophie Hughes described as 'a sociological novel about the emptiness of contemporary existence, beautifully written, brilliantly scathing' and is a really great critique of on vs offline existence.

Edinburgh with autumnal vibes is my favourite Edinburgh. I love this little turreted house on Miller Row which I always pass on my walk from the gallery to Stockbridge. Also, not sure how people are supposed to get on this swing without going for a swim first!

It’s been the the most stressful of summers for a myriad of reasons, so to end the month went to see Gwen John at the Modern 2 for some inspiration before I start my drawing, painting and mixed media class next month.

I finished Lucia Berlin's A Manual for Cleaning Women and whilst sometimes a bit of a slog due to heavy topics but Teenage Punk is the perfect short story due to its cadence and short, punchy descriptions and Electric Car, El Paso is just hilarious. Some of her one line descriptions are pure poetry.

I know the release of this collection is taking longer than Axl Rose hitting the stage but I promise I am working on it! Anyway, Happy World Embroidery Day to all my fellow stitchers! 🪡🧶🎨
A number of different sized embroidery hoops pinned to a light coloured fabric board. Each hoop is set with fabric and a variation of a landscape consisting of mountains above a sea or field and with a sun or moon which is down to the viewer’s interpretation. They are of varying shades and colours to depict the seasons.

Also, speaking of cultural and personal memory, went into town yesterday to drop off my laptop for repair because like my memory, nothing lasts for more than five minutes any more, but took time to go and see the Sandra George photo exhibit at the City Art Centre and really enjoyed it.

I’ve been reading a lot around the theme if memory because I’m interested about how money is affected in the digital age and this book Nostalgia: A History of a Dangerous Emotion by Agnes Arnold-Forster has been a fascinating read as you can see from all the page markers!!

Scenes of vandalism in Greyheart Gardens this morning as the crows used the camellia to teach their younguns how to strip branches off. Gonna see if I can propagate them and get two new bushes out of it!

Good luck to everyone starting #1000wordsofsummer tomorrow! For this years session I will be transcribing this jumble of notes for essays, project outlines, first draft poems etc into something more substantial. I'm trying to spend less time online, so I will check in next Friday with an update!

Back at art class and more experiments in collagraphy and intaglio printing using fabrics like scrim and linen to create textural backgrounds for a future project. I like intaglio because it also embosses the paper slightly giving it more texture. 🧶🎨

Finished my winter coat just in time for spring and took it for a test drive on a research trip to Leith Docks get some reference photos for an art project. Inadvertently matched my handbag to the giant yellow towers that we're all obsessed about on here!Anyway, I love my coat! #sewing 🧶🪡

I finished my first test pair of jeans, I actually love this pattern and fit so much I'm about to make all the jeans! They go really well with my fave t-shirt pattern. The pea coat and Breton top also test makes but all toiles look good enough for everyday wear! 🪡🧶

Currently working my way through a rewatch of what Wes Andersons I have whilst I finish off an embroidery collection, I do love a little colour palette inspo! I should probably rate Bottle Rocket now that's it's grown on me.
