Angelenos shouldn’t lose their livelihoods over small amounts of rent debt.

A new proposal would strengthen eviction protections by requiring tenants to owe at least one month’s fair market rent before a landlord can evict for nonpayment.

People with the lowest incomes are struggling to find homes while thousands of affordable units sit empty.

If the people who need affordable housing most can’t access it, the system isn’t working. We need to fix the barriers keeping people out.

Rent is already too damn high. Renters shouldn’t get nickel-and-dimed by junk fees on top of it.

States and cities have the power to crack down on hidden and excessive rental fees and protect tenants where federal law falls short.

LA and Seattle are taking different paths to #SocialHousing but with the same goal: permanently affordable homes that put people over profit.

In SF, tenants can face eviction over any amount of unpaid rent. Supervisor Jackie Fielder wants to change that.

Her proposal would bar evictions unless a tenant owes more than one month of fair market rent, helping prevent needless displacement.

#LaborDay is a reminder that the rights we have were won because working people organized & fought for them.

That same collective power lives in the tenant movement. When workers & tenants organize, we can win safe, affordable homes, fair working conditions, and communities that work for all of us✊

When tenants organize, landlords listen!

In Philly, tenant unions are building power across buildings, fighting rent hikes and unsafe conditions, and winning a real say over their lives. Tenant power works. ✊

The housing crisis isn’t slowing down. It’s displacing more people than ever.

As working-class renters are priced out of the Bay Area, housing costs are rising in communities across CA. We need affordable homes and strong tenant protections everywhere.

Renters shouldn’t have to pay bills they aren’t allowed to verify.

Across LA, tenants are organizing against soaring shared utility charges and demanding to see the math behind what they owe. If landlords can charge it, tenants should be able to see it.

Renters shouldn’t be shut out of clean energy just because they don’t own their roofs.

Two bills headed to the Governor’s desk could expand access to community and plug-in solar, helping more CA renters lower their energy bills.

What world can we build when landlords don’t control our housing decisions? Solidarity economies including community-controlled social housing show us another way: communities led by tenants and workers.

Last weekend, tenant organizers, advocates, and community members came together in Fresno for the #QueerHousingSummit!

We were proud to be in community, building connections and power toward a California where everyone has a safe, affordable place to call home. 💜

College students are tenants too–and they’re organizing like it! Across the country, student #tenantunions are taking on unsafe conditions, rising rents, and unscrupulous landlords. When tenants organize, they win!

Good news! Homelessness fell in many of CA’s largest counties this year. We know that keeping people housed starts by preventing eviction. It’s why rent control and strong tenant protections are vital!

CA’s insurance crisis isn’t just a homeowner problem. Rising premiums can mean higher rents, fewer affordable homes, and greater instability for tenants after disasters. Renters deserve to be part of the conversation about insurance & climate resilience.

A SF family says their landlord doubled their rent after exploiting a loophole in #rentcontrol protections. Tenants shouldn’t have to fear losing their homes because landlords found a loophole.

The childcare crisis and the housing crisis are connected. When care workers can’t afford to live where they work, everyone suffers.

We need systemic solutions that make both childcare and housing affordable for all.

Portland is putting $17.5M toward #socialhousing. This takes homes off the speculative market and keeps them permanently affordable. It’s a start, but lasting change requires long-term public investment in housing.

Housing justice is an intergenerational fight.

Older adults bring decades of experience, leadership, and organizing power to tenant movements across the country. Their voices belong in this work.

The fight for tenants' rights has always been about more than housing.

Organizing neighbors, forming tenant unions, and building community power create the foundation for broader movements that can transform our cities for the better.

California can't keep treating access to cooling as a luxury when extreme heat is becoming the norm.

Thousands of low-income seniors who rely on #MediCal could lose the housing & care they depend on after Health Net announced it will end assisted living coverage.

Housing targets mean very little if affordable homes never get built.

Less than 6% of CA jurisdictions are on track to meet their very low-income housing goals. Tenants need more than plans on paper. We need homes people can actually afford. calmatters.org/housing/2026...
