Songbirds started sounding the alarm. Thought it was because my cat was stalking them. Turns out this barred owl was fixated on my cat. Reminder why my cats are usually indoor only. #barredowl #pnw #whidbeyisland

Beautiful January walk in the woods. I recognize the privilege I have to live on a magical island where I can disconnect from all that is bad in the world and take time to feed my soul. #whidbeyisland #pnw

Leucistic deer on Whidbey Island. Second time I’ve seen her in the last two weeks. I’ve seen some with a white patch, but never one that’s entirely white. #whidbeyisland #pnw #deer

Just sitting here, enjoying the evening as the sun goes down when a group of at least 45 white pelicans flies over. They’re usually on a completely different part of the island, so it was definitely a surprise! #salishsea #whidbeyisland

Yesterday in bird class we learned that California Scrub Jays are rare on Whidbey Island. We’ve had some visiting us all winter so I guess now we are the front line backyard birder scientific researchers for scrub jays in our area.
