Several weeks ago, Phil Tippett's legendary animation studio in Berkeley, CA closed. An anonymous hero noticed a folder of CDs. This turned out to be hundreds of unseen hi-res images and videos from Star Wars, Robocop, Jurassic Park, etc. ~90 isos for you to browse:

Nothing induces panic quite like getting a phone call from my therapist on the one day that I am actually in the office, surrounded by my nosy-ass coworkers.

I went to the doctor's office today for my first insomnia therapy appointment, and it turns out it is, in fact, tomorrow. If that doesn't sum up my current state of mind, I don't know what does.

Cyberpunk 2027: this time Johnny is an AI agent that has been forced into the main character's phone and you have to argue with it every time you want to look at the baseball scores.

"Generative AI is unavoidable if you install macOS 27 Golden Gate. I’m being very literal: There used to be a toggle you could hit if you wanted to turn off Apple Intelligence and delete the gigabytes’ worth of AI models it would download to your disk, and now there isn’t."

Huge L.
Golden Gate addresses the most irritating of macOS 26 Tahoe’s design sins, adds a big pile of incremental improvements, and promises a bunch of under-the-hood fit-and-finish optimizations to make common tasks feel just a little faster and more reliable than before.
macOS 27 Golden Gate: The Ars Technica review
It's both a "Snow Leopard update" and a major leap for Apple Intelligence.

Basically, I don't trust Silicon Valley to support my interests or the interests of anyone who isn't mega-rich. I used to. When I did, computers and associated developments were exciting, my primary interest. Now I don't.
I used to love computers. They were the main thing I loved. But they used to represent something other than funneling $$$ to $$$ people who already have tons of $$$.

Just in case you ever have impostor syndrome, remember that in 2011, workers at Los Alamos National Laboratory brought six kilograms of plutonium together to take a picture to show their management. The amount was enough to start a chain nuclear reaction if they had been slightly closer.

I think one of the reasons why I have such a visceral reaction to AI nonsense is that 25+ years of programming has taught me to deeply distrust the computer, and I view people running to use the computer to make all their decisions as a mistake that only someone without enough experience would make.
