Today marks the 157th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth. He never visited Australia, yet his belief in religious pluralism, cultural identity and coexistence has a striking kinship with Australian multiculturalism, Rakesh Ahuja writes. #Gandhi #Multiculturalism

The best piece of news, after a relentless and brutal attempt to destroy a decent person and make an example of her, to scare others to silence.
No thanks to the mainstream, which said and did nothing to defend the principle of press freedom and her right to report fact and express an opinion.

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs causes harm when it underlies any program that starts with 'basic' needs like food and shelter- just look at historical Aboriginal missions or current aged care. 😱

The first human need is IDENTITY- to be seen, valued, connected. All else follows from this recognition.

The undisciplined & lawless behaviour of the IDF seems boundless. Combined with the stated aims of Israeli government ministers, it imposes such despair on Palestinian people. I hate antiSemitism, and I oppose this attempted genocide. www.theguardian.com/world/2026/j...

In April 2024, Spain ran its entire national grid on 100% renewable electricity for a full day — and solar was the single largest contributor. No gas. No coal. No nuclear on standby. The lights stayed on in Madrid and Barcelona with nothing but wind, hydro, and sun. Stop #oilandgas !! #ActOnClimate

Drowning Doesn’t Look Like Drowning
Drowning is not the violent, splashing call for help that most people expect.

I have a cartoonist friend in Afghanistan who draws under the name Kakar. He’s in hiding and has been persecuted for drawing on themes of free expression, free press, women’s rights and education for girls. He’d like me to share his work here. He’d also like for himself and his family to be free.

I’m appalled that people thought it smart to boo Welcome to Country ceremonies at Anzac Day dawn services.
I especially acknowledge Bunurong elder Mark Brown who welcomed us cartoonists at our conference in St Kilda a few years ago. He is decent, kind man who deserves respect. I am so sorry.

Timeline cleanse: I just got on a bus. An elderly woman was trying to pay but her card didn’t work. She was standing flustered by the driver. A boy, maybe 12 or 13 years old, who was queuing to get on said to the bus driver, “sir can I pay for her?” and then went ahead and paid for her

The closure of the Grace Tame Foundation raises a bigger question – when did disagreement become grounds for shutting someone down?
This isn’t about debate, but a pattern of pressure, defunding and quiet silencing, Sue Barrett writes.

Defund, don’t debate – the playbook for silencing dissent
The closure of the Grace Tame Foundation exposes a troubling pattern – dissent isn’t debated, it is defunded through pressure applied behind the scenes.

South Australia's power prices have plummeted as they near 100% renewables, proving to the world that relying on wind and solar with battery back-up is possible, more reliable and costs people less.

THIS is how we avoid the next oil crisis.

Urgent work and why I vote Independent!
Politicians are outnumbered by lobbyists in Parliament House 15 to one; on sitting days hundreds of lobbyists roam the halls in Canberra, meeting with Ministers to influence government policies.

My Clean Up Politics Act would shine a light on lobbyists’ activities.
Time to end the lobbying protection racket
The number of lobbyists seeking to influence the federal government has soared, yet they’re bound by secrecy that stifles honest business.
