Deliberately crashing the American economy—costing American families well over $5,000 each—and then promising to pay those families back $5,000 but *only if* they keep letting him abuse them and the country for two more years...

...is some *seriously* dark, domestic-abuser shit.

Did an interview with a US journalist about Brexit yesterday. He asked if I'd been surprised by anything that's happened. Usually I'd try and think of something to avoid looking unimaginative.

But I couldn't think of anything. It's been pretty much exactly as shit as I expected.

Zohran’s speech at the Knicks ceremony & Obama’s speech at the presidential center opening are cousins — two different ways of getting at the belief that hope is a choice, that hard work is worth it, that setbacks are never permanent & long odds are not fate. Stubborn collective optimism is back!

So belonging is the antidote. United was never a synonym for same. We won't arrive at "United" until everyone's included and cared for.

The argument it crystallized: belonging isn't soft. Authoritarianism's core mechanism is isolation. Convince people the neighbor is the threat, keep them fighting over crumbs while a few hoard what they take from all of us.

For days now in New York, I've watched belonging happen at scale. Not forced by crisis, but by joy. A championship. A city holding every difference it has and belonging to each other anyway.

You guys, the White House accidentally ordered 10x the amount of Porta-Potties that they needed. The lawn is just acres of Porta-Potties.

It’s all fenced off and you can’t see, but I took this photo through a hole in the fence netting.

Why Ebola came back — and a warning for the next pandemic
The outbreak in the DR Congo is unlikely to spread worldwide. But it comes at a time of cuts to health budgets and exposes a worrying lack of preparedness for ‘Disease X’

Utterly disgusting that this killing is getting hijacked and used in this appalling way.

These people should be ashamed of themselves - only they don't know what shame is.
Got to be one of the most inflammatory statements ever broadcast on the BBC, let alone a current affairs show. Apparently, there’s a ‘regime’ that for ‘30 years’ has been operating against the interests of whites.

When the father of a murdered son makes a public statement saying "we do not want his death to be used to create further division, hatred or tension", then I believe it's incumbent on any news outlet reporting on Farage's comments to ensure people know he has chosen to disregard the family's wishes.

Farage plans to ditch workers’ rights, cut the NMW, scrap the Equality Act, legalise discrimination, take us out of the ECHR and have a deregulation bonanza to remove our protections and make it easier to exploit and endanger us… for profit.
He couldn’t give a shit about working people.
