I share a birthday with noted flautist Frans Brüggen. Probably knitting something at the moment. Scholar & mal viveuse.
It’s important to be clear that the truth value of a subject does not become debatable just because somebody wants to debate. Ether. Wandering wombs. Devils in red heads, the cursed left handed. Flat earth. Phrenology. Humors. Race science. “Debate me bro!” It’s fine for the answer to be: no.

I think it’s an interesting choice that they never explain HOW Spider-Man became half spider. Might be fun to explore that in a future film

I think after they've done trans people and neurodivergent people they'll probably stop though, right?
Just saying, the trans community told everyone that once The Guardian had successfully dragged trans rights into the mud they'd move on to the nuerodivergent. And they were right.

Isekai as a genre is exploding in popularity because it appeals to a universal desire to get hit by a truck rather than live in the 21st century.

Me: I'm a kleptozoologist

Date: Isn't it cryptozoologist?

This is good news, and it matters beyond the ponds themselves. It's a reminder that, as others have said, the horrifying rollback of trans rights in the UK over the last year and change has happened wholly without a democratic mandate. When the people get a say, they demand inclusion.

THIS. Do I worry about the effects of social media on my 11-year-old? Obviously yes. Do I think she should be banned from it any more than young men falling into the manosphere on Reddit, middle-aged ladies being dragged into transphobia on Mumsnet, or pensioners radicalised by Facebook? 100% no.

Watched a documentary about violent pet chimps but it was called "the hidden danger of pet chimps" and i'm sorry but they have fucking massive teeth with 2 inch long incisors and like a 1200lb/inch bite force. That's not hidden. They don't keep that under wraps. You're just fucking stupid.

Every summer I repost this article on how to spot drowning. Please read it and pass on. In the last few years I’ve had SIX messages from people who saved a kid’s life after clicking on the link from my feed.

Drowning Doesn’t Look Like Drowning
Drowning is not the violent, splashing call for help that most people expect.

baseball was better when there were more hitters and fewer pitchers on the bench for lots of reasons, but mostly because every team had a beefy dude with a goofy mustache who looked like he was completely out of shape but could hit a baseball 500 feet off a lefty

Outside my flat, I hear a voice say “Alan, you are being so fucking obstreperous right now.”
A woman appears, walking backwards, holding a taut thrumming leash, straining hard against her.
Then, seemingly minutes later Alan finally appears: the smallest, lowest, muscliest sausage dog in all creation

I don't suppose any of my followers have access to the MMU (Manchester Metropolitan University) Visual Resources Centre, do they? The Centre has a slide that, if rescanned in high-res, could relieve my obsession. When I last asked, they couldn't find it.
But it *must* be there somewhere, right?

Idk if they have anyone in mind to replace Osman in House of Games yet, but if it were up to me I’d be trying so hard to get Sue Perkins. She’s kind, clever, funny, professional, and you wouldn’t have to change the logo that much.
