5 years of @lowtheband.bsky.social's HEY WHAT!

These ten pieces—each built around their own instantaneous, undeniable hook—are turbocharged by the vivid textures that surround them. The ineffable, familiar harmonies of Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker break through the chaos like a life raft.

Hey @michaelwestbiz.bsky.social, not to detract from the seriousness of this report but is there a reason that everything Claudia Weisenberger 'writes' is clearly written by Claude AI? Claudia = Claude is a bit on the nose; has anyone verified she's even real?

No bees as the weather warms. Hives once perched at the edge of the industrial estate. Now they sell cheap used cars there.

As it is Skynet Day, it seems as good a time as any to share that data center based LLM Ai is caught in a death spiral which is going largely unreported in the media. In short, major insurers are creating carve outs for Ai, refusing to insure it, causing corporations to abandon its front facing use.

FYI fellow Aussies -- @readingsbooks.bsky.social is still the only place you can pre-order this online. Amazon AU still doesn't have a listing for it 🤔 and none of the retail chains have bothered to stock it either.
Remember when y'all made this thread on Paulina Borsook go viral?

Well, that resulted in her getting a deal to re-publish her book in the USA, the UK & Commonwealth, Belgium, France, and Switzerland!

Coming Sept. 15—with a foreword by some guy named Gil Duran.

Pre-order!

#mewithoutyou Live vol. 3 is already my favourite of the three Live releases. The mix is so tight. Mike and Ricky are absolutely nailing it. Aaron sounds genuinely happy. I thought vol. 1 was the platonic ideal live album and this exceeds it in every measure.

- Built new product category worth $20B annually.
- Release PervertPods which are indistinguishable from the original products.
- Assume that users of the original products will be fine being associated with PervertPods.

Apple & RayBans are running uncontrolled experiments in brand destruction.
I don't see how Apple can claim to be a pro privacy company and also ship this product, which is somehow 10x worse then the pervert glasses.

This week is reading @ghoulpus.bsky.social stories and letting them live rent free in my head, gnawing at my brainstem as they gestate in my ventricles. Just insanely good stuff.

Having listened to all three playlists now I regret to discover I am 60% Noel and 40% Rona.
weekend listening: #Swanboy playlists! (Apple Music, and converted to Spotify)

There’s a ton of bands here I have of course heard of, but never got around to checking out. “Today is the day I learn about the Weakerthans” has not happened. Until today. Today is that today.

Re: Emily Wilson's critique I would contend that much like The Return (2024), The Odyssey lacks the presence of gods altogether. They are films characterised by absent Olympians. My reading is that the final act of Nolan's Odyssey makes clear that Athena... is not Athena. apnews.com/article/odys...

I can just imagine how much shit Pauline would lose when she realises the best meat pies in her former electorate are made by a lovely old Vietnamese lady. Most of what the media claim is the 'ONP demographic' in Darra still prefer Bahn Mi though.

Ronny Chieng has become Mean Waiter. Or was Mean Waiter Ronny Chieng the entire time?
In his keynote speech to Harvard graduates this week, @thedailyshow.com host Ronny Chieng said "Fuck AI!"

Turns out you can talk about AI in a grad speech and not get booed.

Micah Bornfree cooking his brain on AI is probably the last person I expected but it's wild how quickly he pivoted from the spectacularly clear writing of 'The End of Protest' to deeply impenetrable substack posts about how AI 'works'.

What the actual hell.

It's almost like private employment services think any assistance at all would remove the 'discipline of the market' -- making anything even a tiny bit easier would stop you getting off your arse and getting a job.
One thing I learned a few years ago is that employment services providers are authorised via the 'Employment Fund' to pay for your food and rent if that's a barrier to looking for work.

FROM THE LAST BUDGET: 'As at 31 January 2026, there was $684.4 million in unspent Employment Fund Credits'.

Jack would do well to read some Jo Freeman. "The Tyranny of Structurelessness" is only 56 years old, so it's a bit cutting edge and niche, but if we get a chatbot to explain it to him in small words maybe he'll be able to understand.
Jack Dorsey, CEO of Block who laid of 40% of the company due to AI efficiencies, describes how to judge the success of their AI adoption.

He plans to reduce management layers from 5 managers between a worker and the CEO to 2-3 this year. The ideal is eventually 0 and all 6000 people report to him.
