Favourite denier myth - volcanoes emit more CO2 than humans

Ask me or any other volcanologist — false

Volcanoes: ~300 million tonnes CO2/year. Humans: 130 times more

This is an insane policy move by the Tories. A must read is, Professor Bill McGuire's book The #FateOfTheWorld. #Renewables are critical, no more oil & gas.

Dinner-table science: Carbon and CO2 are not the same

Multiply CO2 by 0.27 to get Carbon value

In 2023 we emitted ~40bn tonnes CO2 = ~11bn tonnes carbon

Knowing this is how you catch a misleading stat

Fossil fuels are just old sunlight - stored solar energy from deep time that we're now burning all at once. The sun already sends us 10,000x the energy we need. We're digging up the past instead of making the most of the gift above

Our planet is heating faster than at any time in the geological record. That's terrifying. But here's the hopeful part: most of us are worried and want action — we just stay silent, assuming no one else cares. 7 in 10 people rarely or never talk about it. So the silence feeds itself

☀️ Solar can produce about 23× more usable energy per acre than biofuels.
Same land.
Far more energy.
That’s a pretty remarkable example of what technological efficiency can do.
And the panels don’t need to be replanted every year!
