You can't tell, while you're writing, which parts are yours and which are inspired from whoever you were reading that month. You find out in the edit, when a sentence sounds like someone else and you have to decide whether that's a problem, but its like just inspiration leading.

Audiobooks have quietly taken over my commute.
I resisted them for years on the grounds that it wasn't proper reading, which was a wrong assumption. Two hours a day I didn't know I had and the joy of reading has opened up.

None of that was in the plan. All of it turned out to be the job.

Things I've learned setting up a mailing list, none of which are writing:
What double opt-in is. That consent has to be freely given and can't be bundled with a free download. That an SPF record exists, and that mine was missing.
Nobody mentions that this is the job now. :)

I don't want to pad it to look busy. Going quiet for months seems worse. Interested in what worked for you.

Every place I've worked had one of these. The queue where resolved things go. Nobody reads it, because by definition there's nothing worth reading in it.
Which makes it the best place to hide.

Not a laptop. No cafes, no writing on trains, no romantic notion of working anywhere.
