Getting it right mattered more than getting it finished.

Not a laptop. No cafes, no writing on trains, no romantic notion of working anywhere.

One room, one chair, one machine that doesn't move. The writing has an address.

I needed it to be somewhere I had to go, not something I carried.

A whole weekend, gone. Then nothing for a fortnight.

Except it's never nothing. The book runs in the background the entire time — who's in the room, whether that scene earns its place, whether I need a new character or already have one.
