Aptonym alert:

Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve, a CCC-built park now surrounding Argonne National Laboratory in DuPage County, Ill., is not named for the waterfall within it.

It’s named for the late local official Seymour “Bud” Waterfall. His marker in the park is titled: “Nope. That’s not why.”

Doing so will make research more reliable, trustworthy, and efficient, she said. “Robots work 24 hours a day. Your graduate students probably only work 20, so this is an advantage."

Because I don't want the birders to miss this, but the astonishment and joy in this amazing circumstance will be accessible to everyone. This bird's native habitat is mostly in Europe, with additional range in temperate parts of Asia. It ended up in ALASKA.
Okay so we're in between net checks and hanging out in the truck because the weather is shit, and a bird lands on the side mirror. My student Noelle looks and starts making incomprehensible noises, because it's a freaking HAWFINCH
Y'all I had the craziest ten minutes in my bird banding life today and I cannot WAIT to share lol

Thankfully I included a note in our IACUC that was basically "in addition to our study species I would like approval to band any weird Eurasian shit we catch", and I'm fairly sure this is the first hawfinch banded in North America

It jumps down and we carefully get out of the car, trying to get a pic. It flies off...directly into our net.

Hi Internet! I'm Drew and THIS IS MY FACE.

If this GIF has ever brought you joy in the past, I humbly ask you to consider making a donation to the National MS Society. It would mean a lot to me and to those I know affected by the disease!

I NEED HELP!

Please take this quick, meaningless 19 question survey so I can get data for my students to learn stats!

I did a similar version a few months ago but missed an important question type. Even if you did the old one, please do it again!

Please circulate widely!
Quick and Meaningless Data Collection
Help me collect some data to use for student examples! The questions on geographic region and gender will only be used for subsetting the data, not for student analysis. No questions are required -…
