Great publication and a (sadly) necessary read.

I have been fascinated with AI since I was a kid. While somewhat working in the field, I am quite sad, and even frightened, with the direction "we" have taken, regarding both societal and environmental impacts 😕
Feels weird to become reactionary 😵‍💫
Finally! 🤩 Our position piece: Against the Uncritical Adoption of 'AI' Technologies in Academia:

We unpick the tech industry’s marketing, hype, & harm; and we argue for safeguarding higher education, critical
thinking, expertise, academic freedom, & scientific integrity.

mRNA tech is some of the coolest, most powerful, most promising scifi shit humans are currently doing. They are being investigated to help with cancers, autoimmune diseases, M.S., stroke recovery, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, and high cholesterol.

To predict the behaviour of a primate, would you rather base your guess on a closely related species or one with a similar brain shape? We looked at brains & behaviours of 70 species, you’ll be surprised!

Remember when you first learned about genetics at school? All those fascinating examples of human traits that are each apparently determined by just a single gene? Time to check in on some of your favourites to see how they’re doing. 🧬🧵🧪 1/n

Since there's a lot of discussion about #treasuries, bonds, and yields, I'm going to give a quick thread on what they are.

Let's talk about this Nature piece in more detail.

I've rarely read something so anti-scientific anywhere short of the National Review.

TL;DR: using stochastic optimization, our approach gives survival models both faster and predicting better event probabilities

1/ Here's my take on what's happening with DOGE.

I've got fed experience through contracting with Health & Human Safety, Head Start, The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and DOD. I get brought in when people need to get shit done. Other people here have way more experience than me.
does anyone _really_ want any more opinions about DOGE and what it's doing and how from someone like me
