Good. This bill contained provisions that would've endangered our rights for the sake of AI experimentation.

As tech leaders warn of AI's risks, Congress must not remove the few protections we have to hold companies accountable.
‘The bill is dead’: Crypto legislation collapses on Senate floor
Democrats said the legislation didn’t do enough to crack down on President Donald Trump’s potential conflicts of interest.

As if they weren't bad enough, AI data centers — which Trump strongly supports — could drive a surge in "forever chemical" production.

And that's after Trump's EPA already approved new forever chemical pesticides and rolled back limits on them in our drinking water.

AI doom or not, something has shifted with AI recently. The guardrails that kept AI sitting in a chatbox are gone, the models are better, there's more compute.

AI agents are everywhere. They are annoying as hell. IMO the situation is going to get much worse

If we held people personally and criminally liable for the "autonomous" actions of the AI systems they create and deploy, I bet the risky behavior would evaporate overnight.

Today in DC, hundreds of leaders gathered for the @futureoflife.org summit to talk about AI and the threat it poses to our workers, planet and future. Our unions are out in full force.

Here’s what I hear from workers about AI — and what I see as the best path forward:

Why would Trump be so opposed to regulating AI — even in the face of growing public concern, even with midterm elections just around the corner?

With Trump unleashing insane tirades against regulating AI, Obama just urged Dems to adopt a comprehensive position on it, warning that failure to act now will be "dangerous."

Trump's malevolence has given Dems a big opening. They should seize on it. 1/

The Real Reason Obama’s Harsh Warning to Dems About AI Is So Unnerving
Most Democrats have more or less the right position on AI. But their arguments are way too narrow to dramatize the real stakes. They should aim higher.

It's difficult to pick apart fears about AI & data centers that are intrinsic to the technologies vs. those that are connected to the fact that giant, fateful decisions about these things are being made by a small handful of insular brain-cooked oligarch narcissists.

"No, AI will not kill us all. But handing companies control without accountability might." I have read quite a few good takes about the new wave of "our products are so powerful that they are getting too dangerous" discourse. But the best one is by @vdignum.bsky.social, I think.
