The government needs to learn there is no way of housing asylum seekers that will please a large section of the population, and even less so the hard right
They should house people in the most practical way while focusing on processing claims fairly and efficiently, and maybe talk about it less

All this said, I agree with @sundersays.bsky.social that this kind of mass approach to housing asylum seekers is going to be expensive and unpopular. So I suspect the citizens of Piddintonia will get their wish granted.

How about housing them at Balliol or maybe St John’s? Good housing conditions and good PR for uni on widening access? Fellows could insist that refugees can’t go to college dinners in term time unless they secure permanent right to remain?
