Wall Street rose Thursday after the Federal Reserve's rate increase, as falling oil prices and shifts in bond yields helped lift U.S. stocks.

Despite widespread analyst commentary that the Federal Reserve addressed inflation concerns and passed a “credibility test,”longer-term yields have remained relatively range-bound. It isn't because those factors are unimportant, but because they haven't been the primary drivers pushing yields higher

"The Fed is fighting a real problem. Inflation is too high. These higher interest rates are costly medicine." My take on the rate hike this morning with @npr.org's Morning Edition: what the Fed is trying to do, what it can't do, and who pays along the way. www.npr.org/2026/09/17/n...

The morning after the Federal Reserve hiked interest rates, markets raised expectations of further monetary tightening, pricing in three additional hikes by the end of June 2027 (Bloomberg chart below).

The good news is that since this inflation isn't driven by consumer demand or investment demand, interest rate hikes won't have much impact, except on employment.

More threats from Donald Trump to destroy our economy if the Federal Reserve Bank does not do his bidding.

"This month, the president threatened to halt a broad swath of trade if interest rates were not cut, a possibility he resurfaced on Wednesday."

For years I've argued that this assumption misunderstands the structure of China's financial system. In China, credit expansion and repressed interest rates don't boost demand and prices. On the contrary, they boost supply, and so are disinflationary and tend to worsen the demand imbalances.

Trump attacked the Federal Reserve following its decision to increase interest rates and repeated threats to cut off broad swaths of US trade unless the central bank bows soon to his demands for lower borrowing costs. [link]

So hear me out. Trump wants to lower interest rates so dollars are relatively cheap, making US denominated assets (like exports) relatively cheap, thus boosting exports because people like to buy cheap things, and so this bleat is actually internally coherent if you squint.
