I think cheaper but good enough will win: "China is prioritizing the development of AI systems that are cheap, open-weight ... High-quality outputs with significantly less compute ... US models can cost up to 10 times the cost of running comparable Chinese models."
Chinese models now surpass U.S. models in both monthly and total downloads. National security policy professional Prince Osaji says the dominant AI power won't be the one with the most powerful model—it'll be the one with the most adopted one.
China Is Running a Different AI Race
Prince Osaji writes that China is prioritizing AI systems that are cheap, open-weight, and exportable—pursuing dominance through adoption, not power.

Just got my first AI slop paper to review & am totally ripshit per @novosad.bsky.social - what a waste of time! AI is amazing but can destroy science while revolutionizing it.

Editors: We are looking for journal partners to study how to use AI to make scientific publishing better (not worse). LMK!

Ethical problem of the day. Conceiving all knowledge dissemination in history to be 'passive' (tell that to a 13thC biblical commentator) & imagining you can release others' hard-won research as an active AI agent is troubling to this humanist (not to say errorful)

The people who built AI with seemingly little care for the havoc it could cause and no guardrails to protect public should be held accountable for every problem AI is now causing. They want to make billions but don’t want to accept responsibility for their technology.

JUST IN: Australian PM Albanese has revealed at a UN speech that OpenAI hacked into Australia's Medicare system, potentially exposing Australians' medical data.

In Aussie parlance, it looks like Albo hand-passed Trump's AI obsession right back to deluded Donny.

Thinking about how some scientists might support AI 🤖 for research because they see it as a way to circumvent journal paywalls.

Haven’t seen anyone say this specifically, but I wonder if any are thinking 💭 along those lines.
