AI is being used to...

-Facilitate online scams
-Process health insurance claims, leading to wrongful denials
-Price gouge customers via surveillance pricing
-Set higher car insurance premiums using personal data

The dangers of AI aren’t in some far-off future.

They're already here.

We can't trust AI companies to regulate themselves.

It's time for Congress to start taking AI seriously and put safeguards in place to protect Americans.

Hearing AI regulation is in the air, especially with a misguided tone of “open dangerous, closed safe” so it felt timely to re-up this one. There are ways to make the AI industry safer without kneecapping transparency, education, and competition.

An individual in Canada used ChatGPT for eight months to plan one of the country’s worst mass shootings.

Yet, if you listen to politicians and media, the real threat of AI is a fantastical scenario where it might wipe out humans in ten years. They need to stop getting fooled by tech deceivers.
The media has the AI threat all wrong
Generative AI is harming people today. We don’t need to waste time fantasizing about science fictional scenarios.

I've been saying the same thing all along: a publicly accessible AI agent could be deployed such that its configuration details are a trade secret and protected by the CFAA. Some companies make significant efforts to do so. Meta did not.

I fear that my heavy sarcasm came across as incomprehension.

The company took weeks to notify officials. Canberra could now set another tech policy precedent — around liability for rogue agents.
