Labour opened its conference in Liverpool with a morale boost for Andy Burnham after he replaced Keir Starmer, but delegates warned looming fiscal headwinds could test his government.

Honestly this speech just got me angry. I am surprised this is the thinking of a Labour Minister. Now I regret not attending that conference. I need to find out what other Fabians thought.

Absolutely fascinating to see Laura Kuenssberg interviewing Burnham, flailing to adjust her stance to a politician with a moral argument and a positive message, who stands up for his policies and answers her questions clearly. She is getting so agitated at him not playing the game by the 'rules'.

The quality of broadcast media coverage of politics & interviewing has long been in decline & is part of the problem of how politics is done. Laura Kuenssberg thinking it appropriate to call the UK PM "Santa Burnham" is tabloidesque, soundbite & vacuous politics. Not what the #BBC should be about.

I disagree with much of this by @modernlockey.bsky.social, but I think the points he makes tell us something interesting about the shortcomings of the Starmer project and the problems that Labour faces today.

Our members at Edinburgh University are on strike over outrageous cuts. Here at Labour Party Conference we heard from students who stood in solidarity with our members in a huge rally this week.

As always the devil will be in the detail but the direction of travel Andy Burnham is taking on social care is hugely encouraging.
It is refreshing actually to see conversations about the things that really matter.
Achieving cross party consensus on this should be worked on really hard.
