Britain’s Green Party conference voted Sunday to equate Zionism with racism, drawing accusations of antisemitism from Jewish organizations and criticism from Israel’s government.

the Jewish Greens did not endorse this motion! Obvious interpretation is the Palestinian cause has been hijacked here by people who think that unless Jews, including British Jews, are *explicitly* anti-Zionist they are fellow-travellers with a racist regime & ideology and should be treated as such

passing the "zionism is racism" motion on the 90th anniversary of the Battle of Cable Street is a bit on the fucking nose isn't it

What people fail to understand is also that Zionism was not just a plan/ideology for Jews in Palestine, it was also a vision for Jewish *diasporic* identity. Much of Zionist activity has always taken place outside Palestine/Israel and was about communal identity and politics. Hence the attachment.

this para has nothing to do with Zionism, does it? It's about antisemitism.

Also seems pretty clear that the actual thing the Green Party are debating now (rather than the more abstract "is zionism racist?" debate I was seeing on here) is antisemitic fwiw

This is the critique underlying the Green motion. If you can't see why this is explicitly racist and antisemitic, I can't help you.

That's fine. Nothing I have said implies that all Green suporters are racist or antisemitic, any more than I think all Labour supporters are transphobic or xenophobic, or that all Conservatives are anti-Muslim bigots and racists. However, the motion is what it is, I'm afraid.

I will be resigning my membership of the Green Party, as this motion has passed unamended.

I’m absolutely heartbroken.
"Zionism is Racism" motion passed by 1022 votes to 813. Not sure I'm going to remain a member of the Greens sadly. So depressing. I don't really want to leave, but I don't think I can stay as it stands.
