Really proud that my friend Naoko Kurahashi Neilson has played such a pivotal role in IceCube science, including leading the way on mapping the Milky Way through neutrino eyes! She's stellar! Leaders like Naoko helped make today's Nobel a possibility. 🧪⚛️🔭

The late Yale medievalist John Boswell famously gave a class lecture where he read aloud the first few paragraphs of an article in a popular science magazine about neutrinos, but he substituted the word "angel" for "neutrino" every time it appeared in the text. And it still made perfect sense.

Nobel Prize in Medicine 2026: One American and two Germans honored for technique activating neurons with light
By inserting certain proteins into the membrane of nerve cells, the three laureates, Karl Deisseroth, Peter Hegemann and Georg Nagel, succeeded in switching neurons 'on' or 'off' at will. The technique has a dual purpose: Unlocking the secrets of the brain and developing innovative treatments.
