Things are getting more controversial in Alaska, where Democratic candidate Mary Peltola’s campaign is facing a new accusation that it helped recruit an outside contender for the Senate race.

Here’s what else you may have missed from the campaign trail Wednesday:

Amazing!

The source who gave the NYT its story about Peltola's campaign stacking the ballot is the campaign manager Peltola fired and is now suing for wrongful termination.

And this ex-campaign manager tried to back out as a source just before publication!

Shame on Alaska Democrats for recruiting candidates who will draw support from people who’d otherwise vote Republican.

🏞️ Trump claims Democrat Mary Peltola was behind a second “Dan Sullivan” entering Alaska’s U.S. Senate race to confuse voters.

While Peltola denies it, this ballot-stacking tactic is not illegal — and has been employed by both parties in Alaska: https://demdock.com/3UjON2B

The whole story makes little sense on its own terms anyway - Alaska has ranked voting, so people can vote for more than one Dan Sullivan; plus the incumbent is specifically marked on the ballot

there is no evidence whatsoever that this Alaska story has changed the state of the race.
In both Montana and Alaska, Democrats completely misread the national political environment and decided (wrongly!) that their only chance to win was to mislead voters. Both efforts blew up in their faces. Compare that to what is going on in South Carolina and Kansas.

Creating voter confusion about candidates with similar names (as Democrats likely sought to do in Alaska) is bad. But important to remember voter ignorance about policy issues and exploitation thereof by parties and candidates is a far bigger problem: reason.com/volokh/2026/...

Operatives aligned with Alaska Democratic Senate nominee Mary Peltola spent months recruiting candidates to peel votes from her Republican rival. The group worked to coax would-be spoilers into the race to dilute the incumbent's support and help catapult Peltola to victory. trib.al/gWKhuWh

the Republican argument is their voters can't read and don't know how to count higher than 1
the other thing is that alaska has ranked choice voting? and sullivan (the incumbent) is clearly labeled as such? this is making a mountain out of a molehill out of what is clearly desperation
Such BS. The Republican governor of Alaska knows what he's saying is nonsense.

Not only is ballot stacking legal (if icky), and not only do Republicans do it, but they're doing it now in Alaska!
