Independent estimates warn the Iran War has cost $72B so far — nearly triple what Trump's DoD has admitted.

That's over $1 billion per day.

People don't want this. They want a living wage. They want healthcare. They want affordable housing. They want their basic needs met.

The Iran war sent jet fuel prices sky-high. Here's what air travelers should know
Fuel is airlines' second-largest expense, and getting even costlier due to the U.S. war with Iran. Airlines are looking for ways to cope, starting by hiking checked baggage fees for most fliers.

It’s just incredible. The U.S. and Israel have basically lost this war with IRAN that they started. Now the Trump administration is trying to find a face saving way to absorb this ignominious loss while claiming ‘victory’. No one is buying what they are selling.

"All the gear and no idea," as we Brits like to say.
None of the Iran War's stated strategic objectives have been achieved. Highly repressive regime still in Tehran, nuclear program still intact, missiles & drones still launching. And US now suddenly pausing effort to re-open Hormuz-- a problem that did not exist before the war. It's mind-boggling.

Trump rhetoric on the war usually aims at lying to the American people and jawboning markets more than at trying to achieve something vis a vis Iran.

In that light, Trump saying "great progress" in talks means "'Project Freedom' embarrassingly failed."

Markets and media buy it, of course. For now.

Last year @dsmitheconomics.bsky.social noted the relative strength of household finances and predicted the UK economy might outperform expectations as a result.

Seems he was right - but of course Trump's war means we may not feel the benefits for long.
