This was a fun one, 200 20 second subs, stacked in the SeeStar s30 app, then enhanced in the app too. Bortle 4 sky, eq mount.

The 90s were the apotheosis of this design approach but let's not forget the pioneers of the 80s, who may have given us the highest form of the art in 1985

Jeez..

I left Eq Research (not Commerzbank) before the date of the note but this language and content would have been stopped by multiple reviewers before publication.

With the added bonus of an uncomfortable sit-down with the Head of Research.

Teenage engineeringのSidekick、

AirPods 5 vs. AirPods 5 With Wireless Charging Case Buyer's Guide
AirPods 5 vs. AirPods 5 With Wireless Charging Case Buyer's Guide
Apple offers two versions of the AirPods 5: a $129 model with a USB-C Charging Case and a $149 model with a Wireless Charging Case. The extra $20 also buys longer battery life, swipe volume controls, and additional Find My features, so there are differences between the earbuds themselves as well as their cases. Both models include Active Noise Cancellation as standard, the H2 chip, the same open-ear design, and the same redesigned acoustic architecture with updated Adaptive EQ. They also share Transparency mode, Adaptive Audio, Conversation Awareness, Personalized Spatial Audio, Voice Isolation, studio-quality audio recording, and IP57 dust, sweat, and water resistance. Both support Live Translation when paired with a compatible iPhone with Apple Intelligence enabled, in supported languages and regions. The earbuds have identical dimensions and weight. The cases are also the same size, although the Wireless Charging Case is slightly heavier. There are still some notable differences to justify the price difference. Our guide helps to answer the question of how to decide which of these sets of AirPods is best for you. AirPods 5 AirPods 5 With Wireless Charging Case Force sensor Force sensor with swipe volume controls Up to four hours of listening time on a single charge with Active Noise Cancellation enabled (up to six hours with noise control off) Up to five hours of listening time on a single charge with Active Noise Cancellation enabled (up to seven hours with noise control off) Up to 20 hours of listening time with the charging case with Active Noise Cancellation enabled Up to 22 hours of listening time with the charging case with Active Noise Cancellation enabled Charging Case (USB-C) Wireless Charging Case (USB-C) with support for the Apple Watch charger and Qi-certified chargers Case speaker for Find My and charging and battery status sounds Find My with last-connected location and sound playback on the earbuds Find My network tracking, sound playback on the earbuds, separate locations for each earbud and the case, and individual Lost Mode support Charging case weighs 32.3 grams (1.14 ounces) Charging case weighs 34.7 grams (1.22 ounces) $129 $149 For most people, the AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case are clearly the better buy. The extra $20 is a very small premium for conveniences you are likely to appreciate if you use your AirPods regularly. Longer listening time is useful for travel and extended sessions, while swipe volume controls let you make adjustments without reaching for your iPhone or asking Siri. The higher-end model is worth considering even if you plan to charge exclusively over USB-C. Wireless charging becomes more useful if you already have a Qi charger or Apple Watch charger. Its additional Find My features are valuable if you tend to misplace your AirPods, allowing you to locate the earbuds and case separately and use the Find My network when they are beyond your device's range. The case speaker also helps when it slips between cushions or gets buried in a bag. The standard AirPods 5 make more sense if you are on a very strict budget, want a secondary pair, or mostly listen for short periods. You still get the same audio technology and noise cancellation, so saving $20 does not mean compromising on those core features. You simply need to be comfortable with USB-C charging, shorter battery life, fewer controls, and more limited Find My functionality. The charging cases are not interchangeable between the two models. If you buy the standard AirPods 5, you cannot add wireless charging later by purchasing the other model's case, making it worth deciding which features you want before buying. Before buying, compare prices using our Deals roundup, since discounts can change the price gap between the two models. Yeah, it's funny how Reaper's basically the poor person's Pro Tools, yet much better than the real thing.

And yeah, some of those plug-ins are really useful too! I use the tuner and visual EQ quite often.

Is a flip of a switch worth S$150? The Nothing Headphone (1) Pro packs three drivers and a Metropolis Studios Flat EQ, pre-order at S$549 in Singapore.
Nothing Headphone (1) Pro Is S$549 in Singapore: 3 Drivers and a Flat EQ Switch
Singapore’s wait for the **Nothing Headphone (1) Pro** turned out to be a short one. Pre-orders opened on **Tuesday, 6 October 2026** at **S$549** on the Nothing Singapore store, Shopee, Lazada, TikTok Shop and Challenger, a week after the global reveal. The question for anyone editing audio on a laptop in an HDB bedroom is whether studio-tuned cans are worth S$150 more than the original. ## How to Get One in Singapore * **Price:** S$549 (pre-order price) * **Pre-orders:** open since Tuesday, 6 October 2026 * **Where:** nothing.tech, Nothing’s official stores on Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop, Challenger, and other authorised retailers * **Colours:** White and Black * **Open sale:** later in October, according to Nothing, with details to be announced Nothing Headphone (1) Pro is up for pre-order in Singapore at S$549 Nothing calls this its most advanced pair of headphones to date, built around three drivers and tuning developed with London’s **Metropolis Studios**. When the brand announced the global launch on 29 September, local buyers were told to hang on for a price. Now it’s listed at all of the places above. ## Three Drivers, Three Jobs Most of the S$549 goes into what sits behind the glass: Taken apart, the Headphone (1) Pro shows the three separate drivers for bass, vocals and highs, along with the circuitry around them * **Bass:** a **40mm dynamic driver** * **Vocals:** a 13 × 8mm precision dynamic driver * **Highs:** a solid-state xMEMS driver The logic is the one behind any decent speaker with a separate woofer and tweeter, where each part does the range it’s good at. Nothing says the vocal driver sits where most headphones dip, so breaths and sharp “S” and “T” sounds come through with more texture. The treble driver uses a diaphragm the company rates at 95 times stiffer than plastic. The Nothing Headphone (1) Pro, which opened for pre-order in Singapore on 6 October 2026 at S$549 Nothing lists a frequency response of 20Hz to 40kHz for the full set. The wired options matter more to anyone working with audio. The bundled 3.5mm cable carries Hi-Res audio at up to 24-bit/96kHz, and USB-C goes lossless at up to **24-bit/192kHz**. That’s a generous spec for headphones that are equally expected to survive a sweaty walk to the bus stop. ## The Switch That Earns the “Pro” The detail that separates these from a regular pair of noise-cancelling headphones is a physical **Flat EQ Switch**. EQ is short for equaliser, the setting that shapes how much bass, mids and treble reach the ear. Flick the switch down, and the headphones move to a neutral profile developed by Metropolis Studios. Nothing says it strips out colouration and processing for reviewing tracks or comparing mixes. Dedicated drivers for bass, vocals and highs, plus the switch that justifies the extra S$150 That matters to anyone who makes things, because headphones that flatter the bass will talk a creator into a mix that sounds thin on everybody else’s speakers. The switch is the reason to pay the extra S$150. Recording is where the cable comes back in. The spec sheet lists two latency figures: Seen in profile, the over-ear Headphone (1) Pro keeps the transparent design Nothing is known for, now with glass over the ear cups * **Aux cable with Flat EQ on:** under 15ms * **Bluetooth low-latency mode:** under 120ms Anyone tracking vocals or guitar should plug in. Metropolis worked on two more features. **Studio B** is one of five Dynamic Spatial Audio modes, and it’s modelled on the control room of the same name, so music sounds like it’s playing from the centre of a professional mixing room. There are five genre EQ profiles too: Neo-Jazz, British Rock, UK Rap + Grime, Electronica and UK bass. They’re fun to flip through, though casual listeners will treat them as party tricks. The **Nothing X** app covers the rest. Its Advanced EQ lets users drag tuning points anywhere across the 20Hz to 20kHz range, and Personal Sound runs a hearing analysis to build a profile around each listener’s ears. ## 327g on Your Head The Headphone (1) Pro keeps Nothing’s see-through look, this time in aluminium, titanium and scratch-resistant 9H Panda glass, with a window that hints at the drivers underneath. It comes in **White and Black** , weighs **327g** , and is rated IP52 for dust and water. A dark grey Headphone (1) Pro with a small red indicator detail, one of the finishes shown for the S$549 pair Comfort got the bigger rethink. Nothing says the titanium arms are 45% lighter than those on Headphone (1), the padding is 12% thicker, and the foam is 50% softer so that it flexes around glasses and piercings. One number nobody advertises is the hardshell case, which weighs 383.5g, heavier than the headphones. Together, the pair adds more than 700g to a tote bag. Battery life is listed at up to **30 hours** with active noise cancellation (ANC) on and up to **68 hours** with it off. A five-minute top-up is good for two hours of ANC listening. The ANC itself runs on 10 microphones and reaches up to 46 dB, which Nothing puts at 5 dB stronger on average than Headphone (1). The Verge’s review was cooler on that point and found the noise cancelling comparable with major rivals, not ahead of them. Look closer and you can see the drivers through the translucent shell ## So, Is S$549 Fair? The original Headphone (1) was tuned by British audio firm KEF. Reviews praised its design and battery life, but some found the default sound flat until they adjusted the EQ. The Pro answers that complaint with hardware, and early verdicts are warm. The Verge called it the best Nothing headphone it had used, while TechRadar praised the sound and kept some reservations. _Studio-quality_ remains Nothing’s own description, and listeners should weigh it as that. Nothing bills the Headphone (1) Pro as its most advanced headphones to date, with separate drivers for bass, vocals and highs Who it suits comes down to what the headphones are for: * **People who create:** this pair makes sense. A bedroom producer, podcaster or video editor gets one set of headphones that goes neutral for checking a mix and switches back to ANC on the train home. * **People who only want a quieter commute:** they’re paying for a switch they’ll rarely touch. 🗓️ **Date:** Pre-orders opened Tuesday, 6 October 2026 📍 **Location:** nothing.tech, Nothing’s official stores on Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop, Challenger, and other authorised retailers 💰 **Price:** S$549 (pre-order price) 🎨 **Colours:** White and Black 🔋 **Battery:** Up to 30 hours with ANC on, up to 68 hours with ANC off (Nothing’s figures) Nothing says the local open sale will follow later in October, with details to be announced. The Nothing Singapore store carries the full specifications and is the place to watch for that news. For creators who’ve been mixing on whatever earbuds were lying around, a neutral switch at S$549 is a rather tempting upgrade. **_Visuals courtesy of Nothing._**
