My favorite way to "derive" the Schrödinger eq: think of a plane wave with frequency ω and wave number k. Planck tells you E=hbar ω, de Broglie says p = hbar k, and Newton says E=p^2/2m. From that you can get a dispersion relation ω = (hbar/2m)k^2. Then just guess what equation has that solution.
