Newswise — ATLANTA, Ga. — The Georgia Forestry Innovation Initiative (GFII), a collaborative effort led by Georgia Tech and the Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC), today announced the selection of The Langdale Company as its industry collaborator for development of a pilot-scale manufacturing facility designed to accelerate commercialization of innovative forest-based products and technologies. The pilot facility is expected to support development of technologies that convert underutilized woody biomass, forestry residuals, and mill byproducts into higher-value chemicals, advanced materials, carbon products, fuels, and other forest-derived products. The effort builds upon years of research and commercialization activities underway through Georgia Tech's Renewable Bioproducts Institute and the Center for a Renewables-Based Economy from Wood (ReWOOD.) GFII was established to help accelerate pilot-scale deployment, technology commercialization, and industry relationships that can strengthen Georgia's forest economy and create new manufacturing opportunities across the state. The Langdale Company was selected through a competitive Request for Collaboration process that was open Aug. 3 through Aug. 31, 2026. The complex combines a 242 MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) plant with two co-located battery energy storage systems (BESS) totalling 311 MW/773 MWh. The Tenevo complex is expected to generate approximately 332 GWh of clean electricity a year. Solarpro Holding acted as EPC contractor and project manager for the complex. The Tenevo complex is financed by European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and Raiffeisen Bank International AG (RBI) with €50 million from EBRD and €53 million from RBI for the PV part and a total of €60 million for the second phase of the BESS, to be signed shortly. On July 4, 2025, astronomers watched a cosmic explosion do something it was not supposed to do. The event began with a blink-and-you-miss-it burst of gamma rays lasting just four-tenths of a second — exactly the sort of flash expected when two neutron stars slam together. But this time, instead of fading away, the source kept blazing in softer X-rays for nearly 10 minutes. This unusually long glow is the main clue to what may have happened after the collision. Astronomers think the merger may have produced a magnetar, an ultra-dense neutron star wrapped in an enormously powerful magnetic field. If so, the newborn object could have continued pumping energy into the wreckage long after the initial gamma-ray burst was over.
