Someone carrying the cost in a gas bill, heating bill, or grocery receipt did not necessarily have any meaningful say in the decision that created it.
The Cost of War Comes Due Before the Ballot
You can vote for or against the people in charge without having had real control over decisions they already made. The decision comes first. The costs spread through society. Only later do voters get to judge the officials still managing the consequences.

My wife and I have been driving EV's since 2022. We've put over 140000 miles between our 2 cars and they've never given us any problems. The amount of money we've saved in not buying gas is just crazy.
We charge at home and it's great getting in to a full, warm, preconditioned car everyday.

I'm not sure there are many voters left who really buy that binary choice. We weren't getting nuked when gas was $2.20.

Also bonkers to upgrade gas supply and lock in on gas for another 15+ years when electrifying it would probably cost a similar amount, permanently reduce everyone's bills, and improve indoor air quality (which impacts health.)

We have an EV & a PHEV (33 mile all electric range, then hybrid mode) The PHEV is a full sized van, get's almost 45 mpg in Hybrid mode, and since we make a LOT of local trips, we only end up putting in a half tank of gas per year.
