A record-breaking marine heatwave continues along the CA coast. Remarkably, as readings from Scripps Pier in La Jolla illustrate, the usual seasonal cycle (i.e., ocean cooling as summer transitions into winter) is completely absent--with ~75F water temperatures now into November!

Over 60 days so far this year have been record warm, with virtually all recent days being well above historical records for the date as no seasonal cooling at all has yet been observed despite rapid cooling usually beginning in September. It is a remarkable graphic.
