It is renowned for its many classical Buddhist temples, as well as its gardens, imperial palaces, Shinto shrines, and traditional wooden houses... The Gion district is the geisha quarter (where women provide entertainment services). Beautiful kimonos =) Kyoto, l'ancienne capitale du Japon, est une ville située sur l'île de Honshu. Elle est réputée pour ses nombreux temples bouddhistes classiques, ainsi que pour ses jardins, ses palais impériaux, ses sanctuaires shintoïstes et ses maisons traditionnelles en bois... A strengthening tropical low east of the Northern Mariana Islands will likely become TS Choi-wan over the next couple of days. The storm may eventually pass east of #Japan later next week, but may track far enough west to brush eastern #Honshu with some rain & wind.

Vertrekdag uit #Tokyo, de hoofdstad van mijn tweede vaderland #Japan. Het WK #atletiek was onvergetelijk, het Nationale Stadion een magische arena. Nu op naar Shin - #Aomori in het uiterste noorden van het eiland #Honshu, waar mijn Japanse echtgenote en ik niet eerder heen reisden in 46 jaar tijd.

Zoevend in de hogesnelheidstrein #Shinkansen over #Honshu, het grootste eiland van #Japan, mijn tweede vaderland. Van #Yamagata, via een stopover in #Tokyo, naar thuisbasis #Osaka. Over een afstand van ruim 850 kilometer. Totale reistijd vijf uur.

Na de Japanse prefecturen #Ishikawa, #Toyama en #Fukui kampte ook de prefectuur #Aomori met een recordhoeveelheid #regen. Voor de noordelijkste provincie op het hoofdeiland van #Japan, #Honshu, gold de hoogste neerslag-alarmfase. De waterschade aan huizen en gebouwen is groot.

In de Japanse stad #Aomori, in het noorden van het eiland #Honshu, waar ik nu verblijf, staan jaarlijks in augustus 2 miljoen mensen aan de straatkanten om naar een van Japans grootste festivals te kijken: #Nebuta. In het lokale, gelijknamige museum kom je in de stemming.

Prachtige, zonnige dag in #Aomori, de meest noordelijke stad van #Honshu, het grootste eiland van #Japan. De lucht is schoon, de luchtvochtigheid laag. Kortom: andere condities dan in #Tokyo, waar ik het WK #atletiek bezocht. De stad is bekend van het zomerfestival #Nebuta.
