Hello #HorrorWritersChat!

I’m Ell, I write ace horror & retellings of dark, weird, lesser-known fairytales.

I love movie soundtracks and indie folk and pop. Currently have Rabbitology, The Crane Wives, Mollie Elizabeth, The Hound + the Fox, and Malinda on repeat. Need to check out Chasing Abbey.
#HorrorWriteresChat Question One:

“All the best freaks are here
Please stop staring at me…”

This week, we’re asking about the music of the night, the songs on Lestat’s playlist, and all that jazz…

Introduce yourself, the horror you write, and your favorite music to listen to.

Hi all, I'm TLS and I write stories about bad things happening to people. There's usually a monster involved

I listen to a lot of different music. Usually when I'm writing I'll listen to either an indie-pop mix or 80s hits. I think I'm a punk rocker at heart, though

I'm a screenwriter, best known for co-writing the 2004 "Hellboy" movie, although Random House published me in a "Predator" anthology novel a year or so ago, which was fun.

I curate playlists of film scores when I'm writing. You can't beat Goldsmith's "Alien" for creepy vibes.

Shelly, from Maryland. Currently finishing up a serial killer novel set in Baltimore in 1891. I tend to use music functionally when writing. So, for example, I’ll listen to the same music my characters would listen to. Gets me into their headspace.

PLEASE DON'T REPOST THIS

I've stepped down permanently as the host of the #HorrorWritersChat. It's now Eryn's chat and any other permanent hosts that come on board.

My pancreatic cancer is terminal. I have, at best, 6-12 months. I start chemo a week on Monday. I will take part in the chats as 1/2

Hello once again! I'm Vincent, trans man author of mostly trans man led gothic and Lovecraftian horror.

Music? Hmmm. I like mostly electronic stuff, I'd say. Currently very into lofi mixes and a newer indie genre called Utopian Scholastic. But I also love rock!

Jez, but you can call me ‘Jez’.

While my broad favoured style is ‘Scandinavian Electronic’, my top band is Cocteau Twins. I’m old, see.

Hoi! I'm J. Neira, a cozy horror author & slushie for a couple spec magazines. 😊

I listen to a wide variety of music, but recently I've been listening to a lot of ska & ska-punk. Rude girl style!

The members of my favorite band of all time, Poets of the Fall, find themselves booked to play a gig for the Lovecraftian gods of my horror mythos.

If they can make them dance, they'll be allowed to leave with their lives. I believe in them. 🙏

My first PSI story, from the beta version of the universe, was directly inspired by one of Nox Arcana's older albums.

That's as far as it goes for now. Inspiration and background music both in and out of the story. I'm not much of a songwriter 😅

Hello hello, #HorrorWritersChat!

The name's Mitch; horror writer of the queer, sci-fi, and weird kind.

As someone who is plugged into music during my every waking moment, my taste is far too wide for me to choose just one genre. But if I HAVE to choose: anything with a synth in it.

Here we go! 🤘🎸

Bradley Ramsey here, writer of cosmic horror and horror mashups that terrify and intrigue in equal measure.

When I'm writing horror, I like to have some EDM or what I lovingly call "gut-wrenching dubstep" playing. Music as violent and eclectic as my work. 😌
