In #MathsToday, Year 10 did some Difference of Two Squares questions (the final page of interwovenmaths.com/quadratics).

Outside of #MathsToday, it was nice to see interwovenmaths.com/behaviour get a mention in Craig Barton's 3-Read Friday - eedi.substack.com/p/3-read-fri...

In #MathsToday, a student remarked on how comparing coefficients of polynomials felt very like comparing components of vectors.

My work here is done.

In #mathstoday (this week 😁), I used prime factor tiles for the first time when teaching products of primes to my lower prior-attaining Year 7s. It worked really well! Printed physical tiles for them from Maths Bot. Definitely recommned. mathsbot.com/manipulative...

#MathsToday Multiple approaches to a counting problem, great observations about a Hasse diagram, and lots of progress on chameleon problems in Discrete today!

Chameleon Island was the last "playground" of the semester. I'm excited to see which scenario students return to for their final project.

Marking Y11 mocks, I’m seeing basic skills costing significant marks.

I’ll be targeting these gaps and using my updated "Be the Teacher" tool to get the students to tackle common misconceptions.

Year 8 were expanding single brackets today. Trying to make sure the misconceptions that you only multiply the first term didn't happen!

In #MathsToday a yr 10 told me they found adding fractions with different denominators easier and more straightforward than expanding a single bracket by a number.

The world has gone mad.

Today was my first Thursday Week A of the Half Term, which means there were no Maths lessons for me to talk about in #MathsToday.

However, my Year 8 Computer Scientists did some practice for next week's Bebras challenge (www.bebras.uk) which has lovely mathematical problems, such as this one.

Year 8s had the squares introduced today, had a lot of practice without them too but the misconceptions were fixed first.

Year 8 started on expressions today so had the virtual algebra tiles using both the x and y. (To get both x and y on Mathsbot algebra tiles change to 2 variables on the top right.)

In #MathsToday, Year 10 did some Pie Charts, including some pie chart puzzles from: www.stem.org.uk/resources/li...

And Year 8 did some 'Best Buy'ing.

I also had a nice conversation about methods for factorising non-monic quadratics. #TeamGrid

A task I did with my Year 9s today before moving on to solving multi-step equations: Find every whole number n (positive, zero or negative) for which 72 ÷ (2 + 3n) is a whole number.

In #MathsToday, to kick off the new half term, Y8 did some recipe calculations, Y13 solved some coupled differential equations, Y10FM multiplied some matrices, and in form time, we thought hard about Venn diagrams while doing today's allsome.app, made by @critikid.bsky.social.

#MathsToday New math major!

I just said something on IsoStat yesterday about the one more class -> minor -> major pipeline, and sometimes it really works.
