Frilly ruffles of Trametes versicolor pour down a crack in a cherry tree trunk. It looks like the fall of riffled on a shirt front, in shades of brown, rust and cream. The undersides are buffy white with a rough, porous surface. The tree bark on each side of the ruffles is very coarse, with some blue green lichen, and tiny spots of green and yellow lichen.

Brilliantly scarlet, these lovely poppies caught my eye as we walked by. They have yellow pistils and their black anthers are topped by yellow pollen sacs. There are plenty of buds next to the flowers amid an array of compound green leaves.

The flowers have 5 translucent petals with faint, darker pink stripes. The white anthers are clustered together with the 5 tips of the pink pistil curling out at the top. Although the grasses hide most of the leaves and stem, you can see one palmate, deeply lobed leaf between the grass blades. The pink of the flowers contrasts artistically with the blue and white of the lupin flowers.

Thimbleberry plants are thornless. This photo shows two white five petaled flowers with the yellow anthers surrounding the yellow pistils. The petals look like crinkly white sails. There are a couple of fuzzy flower buds getting ready to open. The green palmate leaves surrounding the flowers are large, often bigger than adult hands, and are velvety and soft. The berries that come in fall are small, dark red, very soft and fragile, and exquisitely delicious.
