Suddenly, a man, Edmund Cornwallis emerges from the old mine entrance where they are waiting for him. He sees them and runs back into the mine. They start to follow him, but there is a terrible noise, as the roof of the mine collapses on top of him. All the knocking noises fall silent, and the reader is told they must decide if they were made by the impending roof fall, or the pixie-like beings, the knockers, who he had angered.

The main drawing is of two men, Tobias Smith and Stellan Holmgren, in bed. Tobias is asleep in Stellan's arms, his head on his shoulder. The text shows the men have got over their differences and just want to be together. The lower text boxes show that Tobias finally got to enjoy Paris with Stellan. They also show Selbourne made an advantageous agreement with the original owners of the jewels to return them. He also threatened the gang who took Tobias with a full on war with the Snake and Dagger organisation if they interfered in his business again. Stellan and Tobias enjoyed the company of friends, including Phillipe and his lover, so much they felt quite sad when the time came to leave.

The text shows two men, Stellan Holmgren and Phillipe Armand, who have overpowered the guards, going into a darkened room where a third man, Tobias Smith, is being held. He is thankful it is them. Stellan is outraged and wants to teach the guards a lesson, but Phillipe says there is no time, as more guards will arrive soon. The drawings show a close up of an enraged Stellan Holmgren and a second drawing of Stellan and Phillipe supporting a semi conscious Tobias, as they make it back to the boat they have at the back of the warehouse where they broke in. It is a difficult journey, but eventually they complete both the boat journey, and a further difficult trek to the safety of Selbourne's residence.

Stellan Holmgren (pictured) says everyone will report the death of Cecil de Quincy as a tragic riding accident to prevent damage to his family's reputation, and that of Jonathan de Quincy,(pictured). Jonathan says he is glad he isn't inheriting the estate Cecil killed their older brother George for. Stellan says the saddest thing is Cecil believed Cecilia knew he had killed George. Cecilia (pictured) says she did not, and would have been much more afraid of him if she had. Jonathan begs her forgiveness for believing his brother's assertion that she killed George. She says they were friends once, and can be again. The bottom text shows things slowly returned to normal at Sudley End. Nathaniel returned, frantic until he saw Cecilia was safe, and Cecilia could now look forward to a future with no fear hanging over her.

Cecilia, pictured in a head shot, says she is willing to act as bait to force Cecil's hand. Tobias Smith (pictured) agrees reluctantly. The lower picture sees Cecilia riding a horse at their stables, ready to lure Cecil to the nearby cliffs to make another attempt on her life, whilst other members hide in the area to stop him before he succeeds.
