The other men, Jonathan de Quincy and Cranston Willobey, are arguing about Jonathan's involvement in attempts on Cecilia's life, which Jonathan denies. Cranston finds out Jonathan has told Cecil, his brother, where Cecilia is, but no one else. Cranston says Jonathan must give him any information he has, or he will take the poisoned chocolate sent to Cecilia to the authorities.

2/3 How her husband died is unclear. #NathanielTheScribe was a lord's dastardly son, brought up in the household. On his father's death, his half brother banished him, giving g him a pittance to live on, and forcing him to give up on his wish to be a painter.
