Surprised to see wet traps this morning but the moths didn’t mind as a better 9/13 in Marbury. Star was NFY Sprawler. It was difficult to get a photo showing its subtle beauty. Brindled Green, 3 Feathered Thorns, Figure of 8, 2 G-b Crescent, Angle Shades, R-g Carpet, Black Rustic, Nov agg #teammoth

The moths are still trickling in! 5/6 last night in Marbury: 2 Mottled Umbers, Figure of 8, Black Rustic, Angle Shades. A Ophion Obscuratus. I am happy to continue trapping as I am always optimistic that a NFG will turn up like the Streak & I will miss looking in the trap each morning too! #teammoth

A huge resurgence in Bogong moth numbers has been seen in Australia’s Eastern states recently.

Last week we had more than 200 Bogong moths in one night to our Perth Hills moth light, so the resurgence has extended to Western Australia too!

Here are all of last night’s Marbury moths in 1 photo! 5/7 2 Feathered Thorns, 2 Red-line Quakers, Satellite, Figure of Eight and Dark Chestnut. Happy to get some as I expected none after seeing the car window iced up early! #teammoth

Caught in my garden moth trap on 26th June, this looked a lot like the clothes moths that breed in my house, but with a faint discal spot it was worth checking for Tinea columbariella (Dovecot Moth), last recorded in Norfolk in 1899.

Now done so - and it was a Dovecot Moth!

Still some moths flying last night, 9 of 7 sp included the first adult Mottled Umber of the year. Compared to previous years, I’m still missing Streak and Winter Moth but starting to run out of mild nights. Durham, VC66. #TeamMoth @teesbirds.bsky.social

Been hoping that Crocidosema plebejana would turn up in my garden trap, and last night it did!
The usually distinct triangular dorsal marking is merged into the other markings on this specimen. The forward pointing tuft on the head is another feature.
Probably my last NFG of 2026!

10/8 at CMO. A rather wet trap early morning so delighted to find a December Moth nfy and a fresh Brick. A little later (when it was light) I checked the walls and found a nfy Sprawler 😊.

Cold, clear and frosty but have a least one moth with this Feathered Thorn. Absolutely love how it is sat on a frosty trap! Also this bycatch by the trap is stunning. Obsid says Ophion obscuratus #teammoth

The 'mild' 6c nights still have some hardy moths to offer. The first Frost Tortrix of the autumn and a rather plain Figure of Eight amongst 10sp 12moths 😁 #teammoth

At this time of year, finding a new garden moth in the trap is even more satisfying. It's just a pity I can't identify this one. As far as I can tell, it's either Caloptilia betulicola or Caloptilia elongella. I think the former, but it's a gen. det. unfortunately. #teammoth

Even though I've told myself that there aren't any #moths of interest now that I've trapped a December moth, I've made the decision to trap tonight. 🙄 #teammoth

4 moths of 4 species last night. Think the days ahead will be slow but always interesting to see what turns up. #TeamMoth.

Lydd on Sea VC15, on a windy chilly cloudy night, the highlight, and NFG was a fresh looking Red-headed Chestnut, the 8th for the Dungeness area and the first since 2022.

Thanks to @trapsite.bsky.social for confirming the details.

Cold night, and unsurprisingly only 2 moths in the trap this morning...but amazingly another 17 plucked from various spots near it before bed yesterday evening! Possible migs included Vestal, Silver Y, Diamond-back M and 2 Rush Veneers. 19/14 in the end.

Axminster VC3.

Only two #moths in the trap this morning: Angle Shades and November Moth agg., which was NFY a week or so ago. I suppose Wogan is lurking nearby, watching closely. #teammoth

Dark Chestnut (Conistra ligula) N.Antrim, Oct 2026. Distinguished from the similar & more common (here) Chestnut, by the more pointed wing tip & straight outer edge (see last image). #moths #mothsmatter #teammoth @ulsterwildlife.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social @europebutterfly.bsky.social

4/5 yesterday in Marbury VC58. The highlights being 2 December moths and a lovely dark Satellite. Today it was a close call with just 2 moths: Merveille du Jour on the wall by the MV and 1 Figure of Eight in the actinic. #teammoth
