This is Metsokangas elementary school in the far suburbs of Oulu . It was -31°C in the morning (-40° windchill). What you see here is just 1 of the 4 parking lots for students. It's not about the cold, it's the safe infrastructure & excellent maintenance. No rocket science.

So I just learned about the 1986 airplane hijacking attempt in #Oulu, #Finland, and now you too are going to. Because I burst out laughing in a train reading about it.

Pekka Siitoin (1944-2003), the Reichsführer of Finland (self-employed), a satanist and a "raunchologist" in his latter years. Is it worth building 6.6-meter-wide Cycling Superhighways? The historical cycling network from the 1970s mainly consists of traditional 3.0-meter-wide shared paths. Now, we are upgrading it to 6.6-meter-wide separated paths for cyclists and pedestrians.

A section of this bike path was very poorly illuminated, so 1st of Oct I sent feedback to the city, asking them to fix this. Not just a dead lamp, but there wasn't even any poles. To my surprise, they installed a completely new one pole and lamp quite quickly 🤌

Many of our 🚶🚲paths are covered by a thin layer of snow for months every year, so the painted markings can be invisible. In addition to regular traffic signs, we're using simple projected symbols to help people remember which side to walk and which to pedal on 👌😌
